I don’t share this part often, but The Hip Kiln has a story that goes way back, long before pottery, long before paint nights, long before anyone knew what this little building would become.
When I bought the property for Mindsight Behavioral Group, this old, empty building just happened to come with it. I didn’t have a plan for it. Honestly, I wasn’t even sure what could go in there.
But it gave me something unexpected,
a reason to spend weekends with my dad again.
He passed away in January of this year, and he was the kind of dad who could fix anything, build anything, and make something out of nothing.
When I was a kid, we spent almost every weekend creating something together: projects, forts, furniture, whatever we could dream up. Those were my happiest memories.
So when this little forgotten building showed up in my life, it felt natural to go back to those roots.
We’d tinker.
We’d talk.
We’d dream.
And without even realizing it, we were building the foundation of The Hip Kiln.
Not the business part, but the heart part.
A place built on connection.
A place built on creating something with your hands.
A place built on slowing down and being together.
A place built on the same love and creativity he poured into everything we made when I was a kid.
So when people ask what makes The Hip Kiln different… it’s this:
It wasn’t created to compete.
It was created to connect.
Every event we design, every class we host, every cozy detail, every signature drink, every moment in the studio, it all comes from that same intention:
to give our community a space to feel joy, make memories, and create something meaningful.
Thank you, Somerset, for embracing this little studio that grew from a dusty building and a whole lot of love.
Every time someone laughs, or paints, or tries something new in here… it feels like another piece of my Old Man is still here too. 💛🔥🎨
If you haven’t been in yet, come see what makes The Hip Kiln special.
I think you’ll feel it the moment you walk in.
I've added a few photos, so you can get a feel for what I feel.
