Valentine’s Day doesn’t have to look like a crowded restaurant and overpriced pasta you pretend to care about. This year, it can look like holding hands from the back of two horses, riding through a quiet valley while the sun drops behind open hay fields. A private cabin. A fireplace. A hot tub under the stars. Real ranch quiet. Real couple vibes.

Book a stay in The Homestead, your private cabin for two on our 438-acre working cattle ranch in Sisters, Oregon. Walk in and boom, rose petals, local handcrafted chocolates, and a bottle of champagne waiting to kick off your romantic weekend. No rushing, no pressure, no dinner reservations required unless you want them. Take the one hour trail ride for two, soak in the hot tub, cozy up by the fire, and laugh your way through VHS movies on our 90s TV like it’s peak romance and you’ve never been happier. 💐

1-night stay for 2 + the Trail Ride for Two is $769

Two-night stay for 2 plus the trail ride is $929.

Both include the Valentine’s upgrades and hot tub access, and a trail ride for two!

Don’t just do dinner. Do the story. Do the memory. Do the ranch. Book the stay. Remember why you like each other.

If you have said your “I Dos” out here at Long Hollow Ranch in the last five years, couples get a 10% discount on your stay!

Wedding Tip Wednesday | Create a Photo-Forward Timeline

Yes, this matters. If stunning photography is a priority for you, build your timeline around photos. That might mean a first look, carving out golden hour time, or planning portraits before the ceremony. Great light is magic, and your photographer will always chase it.

But here’s the next layer: let’s talk about the photo list and the things you should be thinking about when choosing a venue for photos:

✨Must-have photo list categories:

• Getting ready photos
• First look or pre-ceremony portraits
• Ceremony aisle photos
• Family groupings
• Wedding party
• Couple portraits
• Reception details
• Decor + tablescape
• Dancing & late-night photos
• Golden hour glow shots
• Any specific prop or moment (dogs, hats, champagne pop, grand exit)

✨When you’re touring a venue, look for:

• Does the venue offer a variety of backdrops, or just one look?
• Is there shade available for harsh, mid-day lighting?
• Are there wide open spaces and also intimate shaded corners?
• What does golden hour look like there?
• Can the couple step away easily for sunset photos?
• Are there natural textures: wood, pasture, greenery, stone, fencing?
• Are there interesting structures: trucks, barns, gates, trees?
• Is there room for horses or animals in the shots if wanted?
• Is there a private spot for emotional moments or letters?
• Does the venue allow the photographer to roam freely for angles?

Your photos are the one part of the wedding that truly last forever. Choosing a venue with strong visual character and multiple photographic environments gives your photographer the ability to create magic.

One of the unexpected joys of having a wedding on a ranch is that your cocktail hour entertainment can include… goats. Friendly, nosy, snack-seeking goats.

We’ve had weddings where guests left the bar line temporarily because they spotted Daisy Mae or Gertie trotting over for attention. There is something priceless about men in suits and women in gowns crouching down for forehead rubs and goat selfies.

It’s the perfect icebreaker, especially if not all your guests know each other. Nothing gets strangers laughing like a goat nibbling on someone’s boutonniere or trying to climb into a group photo.

At Long Hollow Ranch, we’re always happy to include a little goat-time in your day if you want it. Because yes, your wedding can be elegant AND joyfully chaotic at the same time.

Wedding Tip Wednesday | Think About the Guest Experience

Your wedding is a once-in-a-lifetime day for you, but it’s also a full-day experience for your guests. And here’s the truth: while you’re having the best day ever, your guests are noticing details that couples often forget. Here are the top things guests complain about later that you can proactively avoid:

Commonly overlooked guest comfort details:

• Not enough shade or relief from sun
• No hydration stations before cocktails start
• Ceremony chairs that are too close together or uncomfortable
• Too few restrooms or long bathroom lines
• No snacks or drinks between ceremony and dinner
• Seating charts that are confusing or poorly displayed
• Reception music that’s either too loud or too quiet to talk
• No clear signage directing guests where to go
• Not knowing if they’re allowed to mingle, sit, or grab drinks at certain times
• Parking confusion or unclear arrival instructions
• A long gap between events with nothing to do
• Guests with allergies not knowing which foods are safe
• People not knowing when the bar is open or what’s being served

Your takeaway:
Guests may not remember your centerpieces or napkin colors, but they WILL remember if they were thirsty, confused, uncomfortable, overheated, or hungry.

At Long Hollow Ranch, we always remind couples to think through the guest journey just as much as the bridal vision. A little intentional planning makes everyone feel taken care of.

Ranch Life Friday: Dogs at Weddings

One of the special things we love saying yes to with our couples is having their pup be part of their wedding weekend. This particular wedding will always stand out as one of my favorites, not just because of the joy and laughter, but because watching their best friends gather around the Bride and Groom, and seeing everyone take turns on pup-patrol, just melted my heart.

There’s something about a dog trotting down the aisle, sitting proudly by their humans, or greeting guests with tail-wags that brings an extra layer of love to the celebration.

When you book the Reserve the Ranch wedding package, couples are welcome to bring up to two dogs to stay on property throughout the weekend. Your dogs are family and it’s important to us that they get to be part of your story too.

Wedding Tip Wednesday | What Should I Book First?

A Wedding Venue or a Wedding Planner?

Here’s the straight-forward answer:
You should book your wedding venue first.

Why?
Because the venue determines everything else:
• available dates
• location
• layout
• guest capacity
• ceremony and reception flow
• lodging options
• access times
• what vendors you’re allowed to bring in

Once your venue is locked in, THEN a planner or day-of coordinator can jump in and help curate the vendor team and design around the location you’ve chosen.

When a planner is beneficial early:
If you are planning a full-service, design-heavy, or high-budget wedding, OR if you feel overwhelmed from the start, a planner can absolutely help you choose your venue, but they will still need the venue secured before building out anything else.

The sweet spot:
• Book venue
• Then photographer + planner
• Then caterer, DJ, florals, and additional vendors

At Long Hollow Ranch, once your date is reserved, we’re able to help recommend trusted contractors and vendors who know the property well. After the venue is secured, everything becomes clearer and easier.

Winter feeding is a whole different rhythm out here. When the temperatures drop, horses stay warm by constantly processing food, so instead of two big feedings, we switch to a pattern that mimics natural grazing.

At Long Hollow Ranch, our horses get:
• Morning hay
• Mid-day hay
• Late afternoon hay
• And then a late-night snack before bed

That final feeding helps keep their internal furnace going through the coldest hours of the night. It’s amazing how nature designed them, chewing = heat production, so our job is just to support their instinctive system with the right timing and portions.

These animals aren’t just part of the ranch, they’re part of our responsibility. Winter care means a little extra work, but it also means quiet nights with soft nose kisses, steam clouds from warm breaths, and the sound of contented munching under the stars.

Wedding Tip Wednesday | Are Wedding Favors Still a Thing?

Ten years ago, absolutely.
Today? The party is the favor! 🎉

Your guests are there for great food, cold drinks, and a night they’ll never forget. So skip the bars of soap and tiny succulents (cute, but usually left behind).

👉 Put that budget toward something they’ll actually enjoy:

A top-tier DJ or live band 🎶

Late-night snack bar 🌮

Signature cocktails 🍸

Lounge area or photo booth 🤳

The best favor you can give your guests? An unforgettable experience celebrating your love story!
