What an amazing show last night. The audience was fantastic and all very kind with reactions and applauses with every routine. A lot of familiar faces who have supported the shop and theater for many years, what a way to end a 4 year run at Spellbound. As the show ended and people shared their reviews and gave their kind goodbyes leaving, I stood behind the counter thanked everyone for coming. The last person left and I locked the door. Sitting alone for probably 30min just looking around remembering all the shows, the audiences, and my favorite moments. I counted a total of 76 public shows in the 4 years and over 200 private events. What started out as a huge uncertainty became some of the best moments in my performing career. One thing I never thought would have happened was being given the opportunity to interview some of my hero’s in Magic, talking with them multiple times, being a guest to their live shows, and going to dinner with them. Some of these top names in magic I have become close friends with as a result of Spellbound. I often open my shows asking the audience (often times kids) to define what magic is to them. I have to say Spellbound changed that meaning for me. I always thought magic was the experience, and the emotion you get from connecting with the performance, and a possible “what if” moment…
If someone were to ask me my definition of Magic now… I would say it is every person who has filled a seat in Spellbound these last 4 years. Without them I am that kid playing with cards and a magic set.
