Wedding hot take: Assigned seating is better than open seating. 👀

Open seating may sound easier, but it can create an awkward moment for your guests—especially when couples or families arrive and struggle to find enough seats together. It can also leave some tables overcrowded while others remain half-empty.

Assigned seating takes away the guesswork. Your guests can walk into the reception knowing exactly where they belong, parents and grandparents can be placed somewhere comfortable, and you can intentionally seat people with others they’ll enjoy celebrating with. It also helps everyone get settled more quickly so dinner and the rest of the evening can flow smoothly!

And assigned seating doesn’t necessarily mean choosing a specific chair for every guest. Even assigning each person to a table can provide structure while still allowing them to choose their seat.
