What began in 1984 as a two-day street festival in downtown Shreveport is now one of Louisiana’s largest and most popular Cajun festivals, featuring renowned Cajun, Zydeco, Blues and Jazz artists, mouth-watering Cajun cuisine, raucous contests, and fun for all ages. Now a three-day festival held each Memorial Day weekend, Mudbug Madness is nationally recognized as one of the Southeast Tourism Society’s Top 20 Events, drawing as many as 56,000 people in one day. Mudbug Madness created renewed interest in Louisiana’s rich cultural heritage and the event’s original organizers are proud to have brought a little bit of south Louisiana fun north to Shreveport.

Before Mudbug Madness filled Downtown Shreveport with crawfish, music, and thousands of festivalgoers, it started with something much smaller. 🦞

In 1984, Mudbug Madness began as a one-day street festival outside the downtown courthouse.
More than four decades later, it has grown into one of Shreveport’s most recognizable traditions — bringing generations of locals and visitors together in the heart of downtown.

A lot can happen when a community shows up. ❤️

We are still not over the newest incredible mural to Downtown Shreveport!

Painted by the talented KaDavien Baylor and located on the corner of Crockett Street and Marshall Street, the project was developed by building owner Jason Kram and Twin Blends: Northwest Louisiana History Hunters to bring light to the rich history of Shreveport. The DSU, through a grant program, was able to fund this project breathing new artistic life into our downtown community.

We are excited to offer the same opportunity to other Downtown Shreveport building owners! If you would like your building to be the site of a stunning mural like this one, reach out to us for further information! - [email protected]

Ever wondered who helps make the Downtown Shreveport Riverfront sparkle during the holidays? ✨🎄

That’s Downtown Shreveport Unlimited! In addition to producing some of your favorite downtown festivals, DSU installs and oversees Rockets Over the Red, a FREE Christmas firework and drone show along the downtown Riverfront — including the LED Christmas tree that has become part of the holiday tradition in Downtown Shreveport.

It’s one more way the support you give our events comes right back into the heart of our city.

Mark your calendars for this year’s Rockets Over the Red event will be on Saturday, December 19th!

Mudbug Madness is produced by Downtown Shreveport Unlimited, a nonprofit dedicated to supporting and improving Downtown Shreveport.

Throughout the year, DSU also brings you Paddy in the Plaza, Rockets Over the Red Drone & Fireworks Christmas Festival, and… a brand new festival we can’t wait to tell you about. 👀

Every event is part of a bigger mission: creating experiences that bring people downtown while helping fund projects that make our downtown brighter, more beautiful, and more welcoming.
