American Federation of Musicians Local 116

American Federation of Musicians Local 116 We are here to help the professional musicians in our jurisdiction however possible and promote our scholarship foundation (The Cass Acosta Award)

The Shreveport Federation of Musicians, known as Local 116 of the American Federation of Musicians of the United States and Canada, also known as the " Local Musician's Union" is a non-profit organization dedicated to and advocating for professional musicians. The AFM has been promoting and protecting professional musicians for over 110 years. We are the only organization that truly represents the

interests of professional musicians and performers in our area, and, we are part of the largest organization in the world that represents the interests of professional musicians. Local 116 has been serving our area since July 1, 1900, and continues to be an effective advocate for musicians' rights in the workplace (be that a nightclub, a symphony stage, in a recording studio, or on tour). The AFM and Local 116 do the best we can to protect the recorded works musicians produce from being exploited, and protect our members live performances by providing several types of benefit programs that help them build successful careers. Members of the Shreveport Federation of Musicians Local 116 are secure in knowing that their organization is actively lobbying to promote legislation and public awareness that protects musicians' interests, negotiating collective bargaining agreements with the recording industry, motion picture industry, jingle industry, TV networks, National Public TV and Radio, and providing excellent wages and working conditions for its members. The stronger we are in numbers, the stronger we are collectively. Remember, live music is best!

Tickets are on sale now for “Sing It! The David Egan Songbook”

The star-studded mini-tour will travel to venues across Louisiana from Thursday-Sunday, March 23-26, 2017

“Sing It! The David Egan Songbook” will bring an unprecedented lineup of musicians together in celebration of the life and legacy of musician and songwriter David Egan, who died in March 2016. Marcia Ball, C.C. Adcock, Roddie Romero, David Torkanowsky, Kristin Diable, Buddy Flett, Kevin Gordon, Steve Riley, Michael Juan Nunez and many other gifted artists will be along for the entire run, with a number of additional special guests joining the show each night.

Egan’s songs have been recorded by a who’s who of music industry legends including Joe Cocker, Solomon Burke, John Mayall, Percy Sledge, Irma Thomas, Marcia Ball and many others.

Special guests confirmed so far are Sonny Landreth (Lafayette shows); Irma Thomas (New Orleans), Papa Mali (New Orleans); and A-Train (Bossier City). Several more special guests will be announced.

The mini-tour is supported by Healthier Air for All, The Louisiana Cultural Economy Foundation, Margaritaville Resort Casino, OffBeat magazine, Mattress Plus, and Musicians for Smoke-Free Louisiana. Proceeds from these once-in-a-lifetime evenings of songs and stories will benefit The David Egan Dreamer Fund at The Community Foundation of Acadiana, which is dedicated to perpetuating its namesake’s focus on creativity.

Tickets for all four evenings of music are available at www.DavidEganSongs.com or, for the Bossier show, by calling John Howe – 318-208-6375.

“There’s never been anything like this project – in Louisiana music and beyond,” noted mini-tour co-producer Todd Mouton. “These truly historic, one-of-a-kind shows will each unite an unprecedented cross-section of gifted artists in celebration of friendship and brilliant creative achievement.”

Dear Friends,

I hope we don’t look our age but as of July 1st our local is 115 years old! We were founded on this date in 1900 and have managed to survive through two world wars, Vietnam and the baconator sandwich. At 115 we are one of one of the oldest organizations in Shreveport.
