I will always grow cosmos!
There is something about their little tutu ruffles and wild stems that makes me feel like I’m in the fairy world.
I wanted to showcase them by featuring only cosmos and am continuing to strengthen my sculptural skills.
One day I’ll have enough toys cleaned up to give myself an actual space for taking pictures!

One of the most fulfilling parts of being a flower farmer is the surprise of a new bloom that came from a seed you saved from the season before! Dahlia genetics are incredibly complex so a saved seed will give you a surprise bloom the next year. It may look nothing like the flower you collected it from!
I have never grown a dahlia this color from a tuber and was blown away to find this burst of happiness next to the house. That’s where I plant dahlias I grow from seed. Since some can be total duds I don’t like to give them too much real estate in the garden.

Dahlias are just such divas, and they drive me nuts but I love them!

Found this bowl while my husband and I cleaned and rearranged our kitchen today. It was my Uncle Willie’s. He passed away suddenly a couple years ago. I remember vaguely being in his kitchen as relatives got his belongings ready for an estate sale and seeing this bowl. I suddenly had a memory of his holding it and I couldn’t imagine it being in a strangers home so I took it. However, it was too painful for me to look at so I stuffed it in a cupboard.
When we stumbled across it today my heart hurt but not as badly as it once did. I miss him so much so that I often try not to think about him so that I don’t burst into tears. When I saw the bowl today though, I felt like it was a sign to spend some time with him. So I played some opera, his favorite, and put together an arrangement I think honors him. Nothing too showy, no super bold colors. Classics.
Miss you Uncle Willie.

Small romantic bouquets for $10, so you might as well pick up 2 😉
We also have single variety bundles of sunflowers and hydrangeas.
For a larger bouquet I take orders or you can join the fall monthly subscription group!

Oh and we have pounded flower totes and dried wreaths out. It’s a flower extravaganza 🌺

The seasons have been so strange this year. Incredible extremes have made it hard to predict when the flowers will come into bloom. Patience has never been a virtue of mine, though I badly want it to be. I want to be calmer, more present, more aware. I, however, am prone to speed and jumping before looking and frustration.
Tending to flowers and learning to lean into unpredictability and accept what comes is helping me to grow and come into bloom myself.
Also, I have openings for speciality ordered bouquets on top of my subscriptions so if you need a gift or want to try out a little something beautiful on your kitchen counter, let me know 🌺

Foxtail by sunset.
Been furiously gardening between heat waves and thunderstorms, potty training and breastfeeding, nap times and sleep deprivation—but a stolen moment at the end of the day is all I need.
I’m so excited for the flowers I’m learning to grow this year. The textures and colors I’ve been introduced to have been extraordinary and it seems like every day brings a new treasure.
Thankful for grace amidst chaos.
