On Saturday, the SHS Band program was one of 39 schools in Nebraska to receive the Excellence in Academic Achievement award at the annual Nebraska State Bandmasters Association convention. To qualify for the award, the average of all band members cumulative GPAs must be 3.5 or higher. This year there are 109 students in the band program- over 20% of the student body at SHS! Way to go, band!

🇺🇸 Did you know this about Seward, Nebraska? 🏡✨

Seward’s story goes way back—and it’s got a pretty cool “how it all started” timeline:

📍 1865 – Often considered the founding year, when Lewis Moffitt bought land here and built a small two-room cabin that became a stopping place for early settlers.

🗺️ 1868 – The town was surveyed and officially platted (mapped out into streets and lots), which is when Seward really started taking shape as a community.

🏛️ 1870 – Seward was incorporated as a city (official city status!), with records noting April 5, 1870.

⭐ How Seward got its name:
Seward was named after Seward County, and the county was named to honor William H. Seward, Abraham Lincoln’s Secretary of State.

Small-town roots. Big history. And we’re still proud of it. 💙
