How rare is the name Sedona?

So rare that before Sedona, Arizona, became famous, there may have been only one Sedona most people had ever heard of: Sedona Arabella Schnebly herself.

Here's the twist. The name wasn't inspired by Native American culture, Spanish explorers, or the red rock landscape. When Sedona was born in Missouri in 1877, her mother, Amanda Miller, simply made up the name because she thought it sounded beautiful.

Years later, when Sedona's husband submitted names for a new post office in Northern Arizona, options like Oak Creek Crossing and Schnebly Station were rejected. The unusual name "Sedona" was approved, and the rest is history.

Today, millions of people know the name. It all started because one mother liked the way it sounded.

Swipe through to learn more about the woman behind one of Arizona's most famous place names. When you're ready to start planning a wedding or elopement just as unique as the name and landscape, we're here for it.

Bring McDonald's and Nike to your Sedona wedding. 👟💍

Hear us out: Sedona is home to the only McDonald's with teal arches in the world. Back in the '90s, the city required the golden arches to be turquoise to blend with the iconic red rock landscape, and it's been a local landmark ever since.

Now those famous teal arches are making headlines again thanks to Nike's Book 2 X dropping in June! The sneaker features a turquoise-to-teal colorway that perfectly matches our arches. The Book 2 X is Devin Booker's signature shoe, and this "Sedona" colorway pays homage to the Arizona desert with landscape-inspired tones.

These could seriously become the new standard for Sedona wedding footwear. Imagine dancing the night away in reception-ready comfort that actually matches the scenery. From canyon ceremonies to sunset celebrations, it's the perfect blend of style, comfort, and Sedona spirit.

Would you rock turquoise Nikes at your red rock wedding?

The wedding shoes that signal Sedona.

You didn’t choose a destination wedding to do everything the traditional way. That can start right at ground level.

Maybe it’s hiking boots for the trail to your ceremony spot. Maybe it’s sparkly cowboy boots catching the sunset light. Maybe it’s comfy sandals because red rocks and stilettos have been enemies since the beginning of time.

One of the best things about a Sedona wedding is how creative you can get with the vibe. Elegant, adventurous, earthy, glam, western, boho, or somewhere in between. Red Rock Country gives you endless backdrops for epic photos and unforgettable ceremony locations, so your footwear can be part of the personality, too.

Break the mold a little. Get creative. And if you still want classic dancing shoes later, toss them in a backpack for the reception.

When you’re ready for a destination wedding that walks this way, reach out to Sedona Wedding Packages.

This is a sign to bring your dog to a Sedona wedding.

Seriously. Few places roll out the red carpet for dogs quite like Sedona. Patio restaurants with water bowls waiting outside, pet-friendly hotels with red rock views, hiking trails your dog will probably enjoy more than you, and yes... even pet psychic readings if your pup has thoughts to share about the relationship.

Our latest guide helps you find where to stay, eat, play, shop, hike, and relax with your dog while visiting Red Rock Country for your wedding, elopement, or special event. Because if your dog is coming along for the adventure, they deserve more than just hanging out in the hotel room while you’re off having fun.

And honestly, a Sedona wedding photo with red rocks and a happy dog wearing a tiny bow tie? Tough to beat.

Check out the guide and start planning your dog-friendly getaway with Sedona Wedding Packages.

...your Sedona wedding is planned.

One minute it’s an empty table in the red rocks. The next, it’s filled with your favorite people, glowing candles, happy tears, and someone asking where you found that view.

That “just like that” feeling? It comes from having a team that already knows the moving parts behind a Sedona wedding. Permits, timelines, vendor coordination, weather backup plans, ceremony locations, sunset timing, transportation, and all the little details couples don’t realize pile up fast when planning from out of town.

We’ve made the process easier without making it feel cookie-cutter. Your wedding can still be wildly personal, beautifully you, and stress-free enough that you actually enjoy being engaged.

When you’re ready, Sedona Wedding Packages can help turn “Where do we even start?” into “Wait... it’s already happening?”

Peak bagging never looked so beautiful.

The mountains of Northern Arizona reach more than 12,600 feet into the sky. Many people don't realize that this part of the Grand Canyon State has a higher elevation, which changes everything from weather patterns to risk of altitude health issues.

Even at the starting points, there are elevations you should know:
📍Flagstaff: 7,000'
📍Sedona: 4,500'
📍South Rim of Grand Canyon: 6,800'
📍North Rim of Grand Canyon: 8,000'
📍Winslow: 6,800'

While most people won't have much of an impact in altitude health issues less than 8,000 feet, those more sensitive or habitually living near sea level can feel impacts starting between 5,000 and 7,000 feet.

If you plan on climbing some peaks during your wedding or elopement trip, here are some tips:
⛰️Give yourself a day or two to acclimate to the elevation
⛰️Drink plenty of water and avoid alcohol
⛰️Take it slow; don't try to set a personal record at first
⛰️Snack often since your body burns more calories at higher elevations

We can help you plan for all aspects of a Grand Canyon, Sedona, or Flagstaff Forest wedding or elopement.
