I’ve never known without Manny - Manny was a year old when I first met him, which means when he left this realm today he was 14 1/2. Matt put a picture of Manny in his dating profile and it’s one of the main reasons I decided to talk to him.

He was the worst best dog in the whole world. One time he ate 18 raw eggs off the counter. One time he ate half a 5lb bag of flour. One time he ate two raw loaves of bread resting on the counter. There are so many more “one time” stories about him. He was the dopiest, sweetest, most stubborn baby of a dog I’ve ever met, and our house is so empty without him.

I always joked that we were a “blended family” bc Matt had Manny and I had Ruckus and Albert when we first met, and now they’re all back together causing trouble somewhere in the ether. It’s the hardest part of living with an animal and there’s a giant fluffy doodle sized hole in our hearts. Good boy, Manny. You were a real pain in the ass and we will miss you forever.

I know I’m supposed to post pictures of flowers and highly curated pretty things, but I love all of these beings fiercely and I’m not who I am without them, and a few days away was exactly the boost I needed heading into a very busy fall. Highlights from our 4 days in the Twin Cities include: so many cheese curds at the , multiple swims in Golden Lake, amazing thunderstorms that knocked out power and turned the sky into something out of ghostbusters, special time with nana reading .bing ‘s first (and magical) book, and petting allll the animals in the animal barns at the fair. Lows included: 85% humidity (or something close to that - can’t remember because my brain stopped working bc of it), and SO. MANY. MOSQUITOS.

This meatball is two today. Two! Being his mama has been the greatest joy of my whole life. He’s funny, stubborn, sweet, and so so smart. He loves “garbage truck day”, Elmo, talking about his butt, and dancing. He’s obsessed with “helping” in the garden. And every once in a while he will walk up to me out of the blue saying “hi mama” and then give me a hug and a kiss. We love you, Archer. It’s a profound honor to be your parents and we’re so grateful that your birthparents chose us to be your people.

My chicken chore helper is pretty cute these days. Not the most efficient way of feeding the girls (gently picking individual tiny pieces of scratch out and trying to hand feed each hen) but I’ll take whatever help I can get 😉.
