Leif Erikson Hall Leif Erikson Hall was built as the home to Leif Erikson Lodge 2-001, Sons of Norway. The building is celebrating its 40th anniversary in 2026.

Dedicated on November 1, 1986. Thousands of hours of work by volunteers built the three story building. Leif Erikson Hall is the home of Sons of Norway Leif Erikson Lodge 2-001 in Seattle. The space also serves as an event hall for rentals such as weddings, birthday parties, celebrations, fund raisers, annual meetings, practice space for dance groups and choruses, other meetings.

We are excited to welcome you back to Leif Erikson Lodge as we kick off our fall season! We hope you enjoyed a wonderful summer and look forward to gathering together again in Ballard.

Our program features traditional Hardanger fiddle music by Elise Snoey and friends, along with updates from our summer camp scholarship recipients. We will also take a moment to offer a short condolence for the passing of King Harald V of Norway. Our business meeting will begin at 7:30 PM.

For dinner, we are serving Norway’s national dish, Fårikål—braised lamb with green cabbage, onions, and black pepper. The meal includes parsley-salted potatoes, green salad with pear vinaigrette, rolls, and carrot cake. The cost is $30 per person, including your beverage.

9/5, 10 AM to 2 PM - First Saturday Kaffestua returns! Come enjoy our Norwegian cafe

9/9, 5:30 to 9:00 PM - LEL Member Meeting! Social Hour at 5:30, Dinner and program at 6:00, and Business meeting at 7:00

9/12, 5 to 8 PM - Second Saturday Social Hour returns! Bring a friend and enjoy fun games and conversation

9/19, 10 AM to 2 PM - Third Saturday Kaffestua returns! Come practice your Norwegian by ordering food and coffee from us

Every Tuesday (from 9/8 onward), 5 to 7 PM - Leikarringen Norwegian Folk Dance returns! Anyone is welcome to come and learn with us

Every Wednesday and Friday, 10 AM to 2 PM - Kaffestua continues! Enjoy delicious food at our Norwegian Cafe

Every Friday, 10 AM to 2 PM - Bibliotek! Our Library in the Basement is open to visit and check out books

With the passing of His Majesty King Harald V of Norway, Leif Erikson Lodge wants to honor his legacy by looking at how he has touched our members, as well as the Ballard and local Norwegian American community. He and his family visited Washington State multiple times throughout the years.

In 1964 as Crown Prince, he visited Norway Center, Fishermen's Terminal, the Ballard Locks, the Norse Home, and Shilshole Marina, where he got to see the Leif Erikson statue!

In 1995 he visited for the first time as King, where he dedicated the Bergen Place Park mural. His father, Olav V, had dedicated the park almost exactly 20 years before. This visit held special weight as it marked the 50th anniversary of the end of WWII, and his primary purpose was honoring the Norwegian merchant marines and war veterans (Krigsseilers) who bravely supported Norway at sea. Following the dedication, the royal couple famously walked down Market Street to an invitation-only gathering at Leif Erikson Hall. There, the King and Queen Sonja made sure to personally greet every veteran and resistance member in attendance, creating a truly unforgettable highlight for those who served.

In 2015, 20 years after his last visit, Harald came and rededicated the mural at Bergen Place. At his own request, he also visited Pacific Fishermen Shipyard to meet the Norwegian-American fisherfolk who have contributed so much to maritime history, and later he received an honorary doctorate at Pacific Lutheran University's 125th anniversary commencement ceremony. He commented that Queen Sonja got an honorary doctorate from PLU long before he did!

His legacy is deeply personal to our Lodge. Our members showed Queen Sonja around Norse Home in 1995, helped host the royal couple at Leif Erikson Hall, shook hands with him at Pacific Fishermen Terminal, and even met him as children in Singapore in 1978 when he was visiting the Norwegian Seamen’s Church.

Leif Erikson Lodge joins Norway and the world in mourning the passing of His Majesty King Harald V. Vi kondolerer. 🇳🇴

Whether you are a first generation Norwegian immigrant, or a third generation Norwegian American, King Harald was deeply cherished by members of our Lodge. He was also proud of how Ballard keeps traditions like Syttende Mai alive!

We will forever treasure his historic visits to Ballard. From his 1964 whirlwind visit of Norway Center, Shilshole Marina Leif Erikson statue, and the Norse Home, to his 1995 visit to Bergen Place and Leif Erikson Hall to honor the 50th anniversary of the end of WWII, and finally his 2015 return to tour the Pacific Fishermen Shipyard and unveiling of the restored mural at Bergen Place.

His warmth, lifelong service, and genuine love for his family, the people of Norway, and the Norwegian American community, will never be forgotten.

Takk for alt, Deres Majestet. Må fred være med hans minne. 🇳🇴

Scandinavian Woodcarving is coming back to Leif Erikson Hall for August tomorrow! Mark Olsen will be teaching woodcarving on the third floor of Leif Erikson Hall on Wednesday, 8/19 from 9:30AM to 12:30PM.

The cost of one class is $70, and materials are provided. Only 6 people can enroll for each day!

It's time for Tur Pass Tur again! 🇳🇴 Saturday August 15th, Lodge Members are invited to join us in the Upper Park (22128 State Route 9) on the left as you enter the gate. Come and join us at the Bekkestua (Community Room in the upper park) for lunch and a walk in our woods.

It only costs $1 to take a walk and answer questions (test your knowledge). You can take the quiz without going for the walk, if you like. You can either have lunch before or after your walk.

Lunch is provided, but we ask that you bring a dish to share (salad or dessert). A $5 donation is requested for the lunch.

There are prizes for answering the questions. See how many you can get right! Come and join in the fun!!! See you there!!

P.S. Sturdy shoes are recommended for the hike!
