Whatever Gunk Pop Is, I LOVE It: Nicolle Swims is NOW. Right Now.
Coming out of a long hiatus to post this one, I know it's been a while. Black Ends, ya'll. Give this band many clicks on the Youtube or Spotify or where ever you get your music. It'll get all up in you in the best way.

Gunk-Pop is.... way, wayyyy post-grunge, alt-punk, alternative, outsider (because Nicolle Swims is not male, hetero and white... I know, right? That's just stupid, but it's not my genre to describe, I guess. I'm not white, male or hetero either, why I got to be on the "outside" of everything?) But, maybe it's frustrations and injustices like these that fuel this music.
The sound of alienation, of how the "mainstream" of a society can force an identity of their fellow humans so as to render them less than and invisible. This is the push-back, but it's not steeped in only anger and frustration. There is depth beyond that here. There is re-birth or self-birth. Contemplation, problem solving, looking beyond and working through. If punk is therapeutic, here it is.
I know you may not know what the hell I mean (I'm all excited and over stimulated after binge listening through Black Ends releases), but just listen to the guitar lines she's playing working with a rhythm section that actually is an honestly supportive foundation for Swims expressions of her experience with the world. This is all back drop for her unique vocals that are at the same time a whisper and howl and all at once the punk version of Billie Holiday, if Billie were born in an era where she could have been in a righteous punk band.
I mean, Nicolle be channeling Billie, I don't care what none of ya'll say. I hear it. I love it. I'm addicted.
Put this band in the heaviest of rotations and keep them there. Go to their Bandcamp page (https://blackends.bandcamp.com/music) and buy everything, or at least one thing. Support this band with all your heart. If you believe in the future of anything, get into the Black Ends.
In Other News: Sorry to be so out of it for so long and not posting anything in the last little while. There's a ton of great music out there right now and I'mo get to as much of it as I can right now!
