Gavin (right): "A lot of the outfits I usually wear are very expressive. I’m not afraid to play with, like, gender and clothes and all that stuff. I notice here, especially in Seaside, if I come here by myself wearing makeup, people will just straight up call me a f*gg*t to my face. But now that I’m with Jose (left), I think people are more afraid to come up to people who are together, so I feel safer with him. People will just like walk by, and they’ll look at us, and they will whisper to their friends, or straight up laugh. It’s still uncomfortable, but it’s not as bad as it is when I’m alone.”

Jose: “I feel like it depends where you are, but still, I think everywhere you go, there’s always those people that just don’t like us, and they choose to show that. Like they’re laughing, or they’re pointing at us, or they’re like, ‘Oh, are you gay?’ but they ask to shame us. I don’t know why people would get so upset with us just for who we are. We’re not hurting anyone.”

WIN: Thanks to our members and other pro-equality speakers that showed up in full-force last night, the Central Regional Board of Education did NOT rescind policies that protect transgender and gender diverse students at last night’s meeting.

By showing up, our members helped the district remain affirming, and they made it clear to LGBTQ+ youth that their community has their backs!
