Top 5 business mistakes I made when starting out as a wedding content creator 💌🎥

If I could go back and give myself a little business advice when I first started, it would be this:

1. Not being transparent with my pricing
Making potential clients inquire just to see pricing created an unnecessary extra step. Being upfront helped me attract couples who already knew I was within their budget.

2. Letting ghosting get to me
Not every inquiry is going to turn into a booking—and that’s okay. A “no response” isn’t always personal. Sometimes it’s budget, timing, priorities, or simply not the right fit.

3. Not following up with leads
I used to think following up would come across as annoying or pushy. In reality, people are busy! Some of my bookings just needed that little reminder sitting in their inbox.

4. Not having a contract from the beginning
A contract protects BOTH you and your client. Clear expectations around payment, cancellations, deliverables, turnaround times, travel, and scope of work are so important.

5. Creating content without enough intention
This was probably one of my biggest lessons. I stopped thinking about how much content I could capture and started thinking about why I was capturing it. Every clip should contribute to the story of the wedding day—not just fill up a camera roll.

Building a wedding content creation business has been a lot of learning as I go, but every mistake has helped shape the way I run my business today. 🤍
