Our Story
The Keystone Roller had it’s humble beginning as a “summer theater” as a part of the Keystone Park. The Keystone Park was built by the Trolley Company near the turn around point of the trolley cars. The Park included a roller coaster (Stop at the rink to see a photo of all the dapper dressed men and women lined up for a ride on the wooden roller coaster back in the day!), a merry go round, shooting gallery, a small train, a dance hall, picnic pavilions, and more. The early 1900’s were an exciting time for our little corner of Sayre, PA!
As the automobile became more affordable and available the Trolley Company rolled up their tracts and the leased land fell under our family’s care again, along with the many buildings left behind by the Park. Over the years, through ups and downs, times of highs and depressions, the property has morphed and buildings were dismantled to be used elsewhere. But the summer theater remained. At the young age of 18 our Grandfather, Harold, helped lay the original wood floor of our skating rink, and after watching a few different ventures give up at running the skating rink, he decided to give it a go himself. As time went on, the rink was expanded to include “sides”, Jimmy the roller skating horse came to visit, local schools filled the floor with students, Harold passed the rink to his son Fred, the snackbar was moved to the rear addition of the rink, all night skates have been hosted, nationwide fundraisers have been held, Fred passed the rink to his daughter Beverly, countless birthday parties, church parties, and family reunions have been hosted. We are grateful for all the people we have had the pleasure of serving at the Keystone Roller Rink and continue to look forward to all the new things that are to come for Keystone.
