Our History at HollyOaks…
(Keep scrolling to see a photo from the 1940's)
Envisioned as an equestrian retreat, the carriage house (c.1927) was the first structure built. It was moved to its present placement in 1940 in anticipation of a larger, more stately home. The main house was constructed by prominent Lowcountry architect, John LeBey, entirely of concrete block, and it utilized the modern building techniques of the time.
HollyOaks has been stewarded by generations of notable Savannah families while preserving its sense of authenticity. Over time, various additions have served to speak to the architectural story and allow the home to serve the needs of the residents and guests.
HollyOaks rests beneath a canopy of ancient Live oaks and reflects a rare synthesis of architectural pedigree. The façade is defined by the butterfly staircase, while hand-forged iron gates, circular stair, filigris, railings, and lanterns lend the residence a distinctive sense of artistry. The interior is rich with storied materials, including heart pine floors from trees felled on the estate, a hand-carved birch staircase banister, moldings, and richly preserved millwork.
Designed for the glamorous Savannah social soirées of the 1940’s and 50’s, the interior living areas feature custom doors that fold open to create large spaces for entertaining. The marble fireplaces were sourced in Georgia from white, pink, and green marble, and the original marble fresco on the mantel was made in Italy to represent the ancestral history. Brass fittings, fixtures, walls, and moldings are original. The two-story foyer features a marsh-inspired hand-painted mural, and the upstairs foyer is recognized for its oval shape complete with curved moldings.
Since 2018, the entire home has been completely renovated. The crystal Swarovski chandelier in the formal dining room adds an opulent sparkle to dinner parties. Gorgeous finishes with wallpaper and carpets have brought a modern touch while respectfully giving nod to the past while custom furnishings create a grand but comfortable atmosphere.
