Eight years ago, Jon and Heather said “I do” on the sun-soaked sands of Tybee Island. In 2019, they came back to that exact spot, at that exact time — 2:30pm — and renewed their vows all over again. Then 2020 threw a curveball: lockdown turned it into a FaceTime ceremony, and just like that, a new tradition was born. Every year since, they’ve said their vows virtually, no matter where in the world they’ve landed — Texas, a cruise ship in the middle of the ocean, the turquoise waters of the Caribbean. And every single time, I’ve been the one standing on Tybee, holding down the fort for our little long-distance love ritual.
But this year? Everything flipped. While Jon and Heather traded the beach for the vineyards of Sonoma, I traded Tybee for the golden shores of Brazil — sand between my toes on an entirely different continent, watching two people renew a promise that’s outlasted time zones, oceans, and a global pandemic. Eight years, six years of long-distance “I do’s,” and not once have they missed a beat. 🌊✨. Here are a few of photos over the years, but mostly it’s all about me and my wide brimmed blue lined oversized hat for shade! ! 😂
