After careful consideration, Superior Health Support System has made the difficult decision to no longer serve as the organizer of the Gus Macker 3 on 3 basketball tournament in Sault Ste Marie, MI.
For years the tournament has been a highlight of the summer, bringing together players, families, volunteers, sponsors and spectators from across the region. Superior Health Support System is proud to have helped build and sustain this event while promoting community engagement, sportsmanship, family, friends and local pride.
Like many community events, the success of the Gus Macker Tournament depends heavily on organizational, volunteer, and community support. SHSS thanks the community for its understanding, encouragement, and unwavering support through out the years and looks back on the many successful Gus Macker Tournaments with great pride and gratitude. SHSS extends its sincere appreciation to the countless individuals and organizations who have supported the tournament throughout the years. From volunteers who dedicated time setting up and tearing down to sponsors who invested in the event and participants who returned year after year, each played an important role in making Gus Macker a cherished community tradition.
This was a tough decision stated Mary Jo DuVall, organizer of the event. “I know how much the Gus Macker means to our community, and we are incredibly grateful to every volunteer, sponsor, player and fan who has helped make it a success over the years, without sustainable support it is impossible to continue as is. I have to give a big shout out to Ernie Beaumont who has been by my side and has been able to schedule the referees for this event! Much appreciated.”
While SHSS will no longer coordinate the tournament, the organization remains hopeful that another community group or organization with the necessary support be able to carry the tradition in the future.
Please Contact Mary Jo DuVall for additional information if your group/organization would be interested in pursuing this event/fundraiser.
