🚩My top 5 (plus a bonus) red flags to look for in a wedding vendor:
1️⃣ Communication garbage?? Throw them out.
A wedding vendor who understands business, instead of running off of “vibes”, should be replying by within 1-2 business days. It is an essential aspect to your first impression of us, and is a glimpse into future communication.
As a business owner, if your reply lead times are longer than usual, LET THE CLIENT KNOW! They understand. If you’re out of town, set up automated emails!
2️⃣ They are kind to other vendors, AND you!
Now look, I have come across my fair share of people that I will not choose to work with, but it’s not a good look for a vendor to go around blaming everyone else with a bad attitude, instead of being a problem solver! We are a team and a community that should be loving and supportive! And vendors, don’t act annoyed when a client asks questions. They’re trying to understand.
3️⃣ Extremely low prices - This may be controversial, but if it looks like a “too good to be true” price, it likely is - IF they have been in business for more than a year or 2. First year is building clientele and experience, and that’s understandable, but prices shouldn’t stick there! It could mean they’re cutting corners, not running a sustainable business, and inexperienced. This leads to overbooking (less attention on each client), exhaustion, and doing the minimum.
4️⃣ They ignore the small things. As a business owner, always just throw in a little extra love to your work. It’s what gets you recognized. Remove the fingerprints from glass, measure out settings, present things beautifully, and make the client feel special!
5️⃣ No contract, or not detailed?? Definitely run. This is a legal disaster!
6️⃣ Bad reviews. Read bad reviews carefully. If the person was valid in their complaint, there’s several 1 ⭐️’s, and especially if there’s a negative one from a reputable vendor, find someone else!
