Fall in Charleston is less “cozy sweaters and crisp air” and more “maybe I won’t sweat through my outfit today.” 😂

And honestly? I kind of love it.

The evenings get a little softer. The summer crowds start disappearing. The light is gorgeous.

But it’s still warm enough for bare feet, sundresses, walks on the beach and photos that don’t have to scream FALL just because the calendar says October.

Family photos. Couples. Anniversaries. Just-because-we-haven’t-taken-a-good-photo-together-in-five-years photos.

You don’t need a milestone.

You don’t need matching sweaters.

You just need your people and a Charleston fall evening. ❤️

Expression Sessions are back THIS FRIDAY at the James Island Town Market!

These quick black + white sessions are all about capturing the stuff you actually want to remember: the missing teeth, the freckles, the giant belly laughs, the serious faces, the weird little expressions that are SO completely them right now.

This time we're switching things up with a simple WHITE backdrop, and I already know I'm going to love these.

Also? These photos look ridiculously good printed and framed for grandparents.

A gentle reminder that “we'll book family photos this fall” is not technically a date on the calendar. 😂

And fall has a sneaky little habit of disappearing.

One minute you're buying Halloween candy.

The next you're defrosting a turkey and wondering HOW Thanksgiving is next week.

If updated family photos are something you want this year, don't wait for a magically empty weekend to appear.

I keep waiting for the weekend where we have...nothing.

No games.

No birthday parties.

No school events.

No errands that somehow require driving to 47 different places.

Just a completely empty little square on the calendar.

She's not coming, is she? 😂

This season of raising school-aged kids is BUSY. And I think sometimes we convince ourselves we'll make time for things like family photos when life “slows down.”

But these ARE the years.

The cleats by the door. The backpacks everywhere. The car snacks. The constantly changing schedules. The kids growing right in the middle of all of it.

So maybe we don't wait for life to slow down.

Maybe we make room to remember it while it's happening. ❤️

When was the last time EVERYONE was in the same photo?

Not the kids.

Not each individual family.

Everyone.

When your whole family is finally together for Thanksgiving, a birthday, an anniversary or that one magical weekend when everyone's schedules actually align, take the picture.

Grandparents with grandchildren. Adult siblings together again. Cousins who don't see each other enough. The entire beautifully chaotic group.

Because getting everyone together only gets harder as families grow.

If everyone is going to be in the same place anyway, that's your sign.
