Commercial support has to be acknowledged to learners by company name, in text. No logos. No trade names. No product messaging.

Most programs know this. It still happens anyway, more from drift than from decision.

A supporter sends a logo file for event signage. The registration platform pulls a sponsor block from its template. The event app turns on a sponsors tab by default.

The accredited sessions stay clean. The environment around them doesn't always follow. That gap is exactly what the separation standard governs.

We put together a breakdown of how audit trails hold up for live and grant-supported education, including where this exact failure mode shows up most:

How to keep live, hybrid, and grant-funded accredited education defensible — disclosure, mitigation, commercial support, and the documentation that has to survive the event.

Documentation consumes nearly twice as much physician time as direct patient care, according to a widely cited Annals of Internal Medicine study.

The same imbalance shows up on education teams: how much of a CME/CE director's week goes to assembling accreditation records instead of designing programs?

CineMed builds documentation into the education workflow itself, so program teams spend their time on program design, not audit prep.

As 2027 planning starts, that ratio is worth putting a number on. Let's talk about your education strategy:

Contact CineMed to discuss accredited healthcare education, CME/CE solutions, digital learning, or live educational experiences for your organization.

A test that’s more revealing than a checklist:

Pick an accredited activity from 12 to 18 months ago. Can you pull the complete record: needs assessment, learning objectives, disclosure and mitigation documentation, content review sign off, credit reporting, evaluation results, in under an hour, without asking anyone where things live?

Most teams can, eventually. Few can do it fast.

New on the blog: the four systems that make a CME/CE program audit-ready, and where each one tends to erode. Full breakdown here:

What audit-readiness actually looks like across documentation, disclosure, COI, and reporting, and why it’s an infrastructure question, not a paperwork one.

In surgery, are you seeing your way clearly?

Missed bile ducts. Compromised perfusion. Positive margins caught too late. Many of the most serious surgical complications trace back to the same root cause: the surgeon couldn't see what mattered most, in the moment it mattered.

Fluorescence-guided surgery is changing that. Emerging platform technology, fluorophores, and imaging agents are rapidly advancing surgeons’ field of vision, reducing complications and injury, while transforming operative decision-making.
Come spend the day alongside the surgeons, researchers, and innovators driving the future of image-guided surgery. Whether you're newer to image-guided surgery or already using it, you'll leave with a more reliable, repeatable approach to using visualization to inform higher-stakes intraoperative decisions — and reduce the complications that are hardest to reverse.

Save the date:
• What: Fluorescence-Guided Surgery Master Class
• When: Saturday, November 7th, 2026
• Where: 📍 UC San Diego Center for the Future of Surgery

Seats are limited to keep the hands-on lab experience meaningful for every participant, so we recommend registering early.

Where Patient Safety Drives the Conversation in Hernia Surgery

Recent large cohort data on inguinal and ventral hernia repairs shows complication and recurrence rates continuing to decline — encouraging news for patient safety surgical outcomes alike.

How did we get here? EDUCATION.

Every advancement in surgical skills and technology has been driven by peer collaboration, open debate, evolving consensus, and shared knowledge. The Hernia Surgery Summit was built to deliver exactly that — and more.

Now in its 17th year, the Summit continues its tradition of breaking discussion wide open: three days of thought-provoking surgical dialogue led by an international team of hernia experts, including candid reviews of real-world morbidity and mortality cases.

The data tells us we're moving in the right direction. The Hernia Surgery Summit is where that progress gets examined, questioned, and pushed further — by the surgeons doing the work. We hope you'll join the conversation this year in Snowmass.

Live education is where documentation is hardest to maintain and easiest to lose.

A digital activity runs inside a system that records what happened. A live activity happens in a room. The disclosure slides, the faculty agreements, the attendance record, the timing of the non-accredited session down the hall: it's all real, and almost none of it captures itself.

We just published a new blog post on what the audit trail for live, hybrid, and grant-supported education actually consists of.

Check it out:

How to keep live, hybrid, and grant-funded accredited education defensible — disclosure, mitigation, commercial support, and the documentation that has to survive the event.

40+ medical associations. 30–40 accredited activities a year. 100% on-time delivery across a 20-year partnership.

PRRI grew their education portfolio without growing their compliance workload. The audit trail, logistics, and oversight ran through CineMed instead.

New: a Disclosure & COI Tracking Template.

One template. Every planner, every faculty member, every activity: identified, mitigated, documented, and retrievable.

Standard 3 causes more rework than any other. Identify relevant financial relationships. Mitigate before that person shapes content. Disclose to learners before the education starts. Twenty-four months back, no dollar threshold.

The failure mode is rarely a missing disclosure. It's one that was collected and handled correctly, with no record of who assessed relevance or what mitigation was applied.

The paperwork exists. The reasoning doesn't.

This template gives the reasoning a home.

More than 1 million hernia repairs are performed annually in the US, and that number is projected to grow 3% each year through 2030, driven largely by an aging and increasingly obese population (iData Research).

Every surgery carries risk—but hernia repair's risk climbs sharply with complexity. Abdominal wall reconstruction, ventral, inguinal, and other complex hernias demand nuanced techniques that take real skill to execute well, and getting them right is what stands between a good outcome and a painful complication or recurrence.

The Hernia Surgery Summit was built to close that skill gap. It's a one-of-a-kind event for surgeons, PAs, and residents, with a carefully curated, expert-led agenda that condenses hernia education into 3 focused days: examining open, laparoscopic, and robotic approaches, working through the pathophysiology behind the most complex presentations—including parastomal hernias and chronic groin pain—and building the diagnostic and technical judgment needed for the full range of cases surgeons see in practice.

Most audit prep starts in the wrong place: scrambling to assemble evidence after the notice arrives.

Auditors aren't looking at everything. They're looking at specific things, in a specific order: independence, content validity, financial relationships, what happens in the room, what happens after.
