Spring enrollment is opening for Drawing & Photography classes at Emerald Coast Art Co. in Miramar Beach!
These aren't craft classes or step-by-step projects where every student leaves with the same picture. Students learn the fundamentals of art and photography and build real skills they can continue developing semester after semester.
Drawing students will work on observation, shape, proportion, value, texture, composition, and more, with projects designed to put those skills into practice. Photography students will learn how to use their cameras intentionally while developing composition, lighting, and creative skills.
Classes are kept small so students receive plenty of individual instruction.
Step Up For Students scholarships accepted • EMA Approved Provider
Shark Bus transportation available from ECMS & SWH
Spring classes begin January 2027.
Best ages to benefit from instruction are 10 and up.

Drawing class, week three! ✏️

Hands used to be one of the things I was terrible at drawing. So I decided that whenever I felt like doodling, I would draw my hand.

Over and over and over.

Eventually, it became my go-to doodle. By the time I drew this one, I could practically draw a hand in my sleep.

I really wish I had saved one of those early drawings when I was still terrible at them, because it would be the perfect example for my students now: being bad at something is not proof that you can't do it. Sometimes it just means you haven't drawn it enough yet.

And that hand I practiced all those years ago?

It eventually became the hand in my logo. 🤍

Funny how the thing I practiced because I couldn't draw it became one of the things that represents me today.

In honor of my drawing classes starting up today, I had to pull out this drawing I did for my dad back in high school art class.

Art class was always a little different for me. It was the place where I felt confident in something I could do, and where I started learning the skills that eventually shaped so much of my life — long before I ever imagined I’d be teaching them myself.

There’s something pretty special about getting to pass that along to a new group of students today. 🤍
