JOIN US TODAY 11/22 AT 2 PM AT THE COLLIGAN THEATER FOR A FREE READING OF ORWELL'S "1984."

Fall of Freedom is a nationwide call to action against authoritarianism and fascism by artists of all media, this weekend.

As part of that action, a group of Santa Cruz theater folks will present a reading of excerpts from "1984," George Orwell's famous novel about a frightening authoritarian society where the truth is swallowed by lies, history is erased, there is constant surveillance, the populace is urged to hate and violence, and language itself is altered in service of the regime.

The FREE event will be at the Colligan Theater at the Tannery Arts Center, 1010 River Street in Santa Cruz, on November 22, at 2:00 pm.

The reading will last about an hour. Readers include Peter Gelblum, Lindsey Chester, Lillian Bogovich, Sarah K. Michael, Bernadette Glenn, Bianca Chestnut, Joyce Michaelson, David Leach, Miguel Reyna, and Michele Estrin-Gelblum.

The reading will highlight Orwell's prescience and illuminate some of the issues we are dealing with today.

There will be time after the reading to discuss some of those issues and actions we can all take to resist fascism and authoritarianism.
