Welcome to WTD Now, ART SoHo.

Rooftop season doesn't end at ART SoHo. On top of the Arlo SoHo on Hudson Street there is an open-air deck facing the Freedom Tower and, for the colder nights, an indoor lounge of velvet booths and curated art. Open year-round.

SIX WAYS TO DO IT

Date night — a velvet booth in the lounge, low light, art on the walls, and a Fig & Maple Old Fashioned on Woodford Reserve.

Sunset — the deck, the Hudson and the Freedom Tower, with an Arlo Margarita on Del Maguey Vida mezcal, habanero and rosemary.

The spritz — Grey Goose, fresh-pressed watermelon and prosecco, topped with a cloud of cotton candy.

Ch*****ne and oysters — East and West Coast oysters from the raw bar, and bottles from Moët Impérial up to Krug Grande Cuvée, Belle Époque and Dom Pérignon.

The group — pitchers, cocktail towers, and jello shots made like cocktails: Spicy Pogarita, Blue Hawaii, Lychee Martini, Wh***ey Sour and Espresso Martini. Mini frozens and mini spritzes at happy hour, every day until 7.

The buyout — 3,000 square feet, indoor and out, for up to 250 guests.

Ask for the Cucumber & Thyme Highball too: gin, cucumber, thyme and a touch of black pepper. Imbibe magazine ran the recipe in August. Regulars can join ART SoHo's membership programme on OpenTable.

Welcome to WTD Now, Turkish Doner.

A doner shop on Argyle Street, open since 2025. About a dozen seats, one spit, and a short menu.

WHAT TO ORDER
The doner sandwich — spit-roasted beef shaved to order, garlicky white sauce and warm buttery tomato sauce, in a house-baked roll that comes out still warm.
Lahmacun — thin flatbread under minced lamb or beef with tomato, onion and fresh herbs. Order one, or order two.
Pide, shish kebab, and a Slavic shawarma wrap if you want to go sideways.
Baklava with pistachio to finish.

The bread is the part people talk about. It is baked in house and it arrives warm.

Welcome to WTD Now, Rosa Café.

Julia opened Rosa Café on Gravois Avenue this January. She was born in Vietnam and has lived across three continents, and she built the place as a room where different backgrounds end up at the same counter.

Eight months in, the build-out is still going. Mondays go on the space itself — it is the one day they are closed.

WHAT TO ORDER
The Tiramisu Latte — iced, cocoa-dusted, closer to dessert than to coffee.
Vietnamese cold brew, matcha, spiced chai, and a five-drink kava menu.
Steamed baos by the pair — everything bagel, bacon egg and cheese, chicken teriyaki. Croissants and cookies at the counter.

THE ROOM
Gentle yoga on Saturday mornings at 7. Mahjong classes for beginners. Tarot, live music, and a September line-up they post as it fills.

The espresso machine is called Summer.

Welcome to WTD Now, No Comment.

Paul Gilliam and Mary Oglesby are career bartenders. They opened No Comment on Central Avenue in 2025, and the name is Mary's: you go out, you meet your friends, you drink some w**e, you talk. And when somebody asks what you talked about, you're not supposed to tell them.

In June it became a restaurant. Indian-Italian fusion, fine-casual, in a room they have kept deliberately retro. Main courses come with a hand-selected w**e pairing, and there are flights, house-made w**e coolers and cocktails alongside.

Tied for third, Best New Restaurant, in Memphis magazine's 2026 Readers' Restaurant Poll.

Welcome to WTD Now, Balkan Bakery.

Balkan Bakery in La Grange has just finished a renovation — indoor and outdoor seating, a pergola and patio, new artisan display cases — and not one recipe has changed since 2007.

It started with Olja Igic, who came from Kosovo with thirty-five years in the trade, one small suitcase and a black book of recipes. She opened the bakery with her son Pedja in 2007 and spent thirteen years building it. In 2020 her daughter-in-law Marija Pejkovic took it over when Olja retired, and grew it into a bakery, a café and a Balkan speciality store under one roof.

What to get:

The burek — hand-stretched dough, ground beef or feta imported from Greece, by the slice or as a whole 12-inch pie. Pies come in mushroom, potato, feta, and spinach & feta.
Cakes, pastries, pralines and crepes, all made from scratch.
And the shelves behind it: Eastern European pantry goods, deli, w**e and spirits, gelato and cold-pressed juice.

Coming next month: hot panini and toast sandwiches, salads and snack bowls built on ajvar, kulen and kajmak. Later this year, The Gourmet Vault — their online store shipping Balkan goods nationwide.

La Grange Patch covered the reopening last week.
