Which version your DJ chooses to play is a game-time decision that entirely depends on the age range of your audience.

The record industry refers to what most people call “Dirty” versions of songs as “Club” versions. They are beefed up true-to-the-original album recordings with unedited/uncensored lyrics, and as the name suggests, they are most welcome over a sound system at a nightclub. “Clean” versions are labeled as “Radio” versions, which are edited for a general listening audience, with explicit lyrics removed so as not to offend.

Now here’s the science to what get played where and when: 
Nightclub go-ers (don’t feel judged if you fall out of this age range lol) are generally 21-35 year olds. If your audience falls within this range, then we are good to go with club/dirty versions. 
If not, then the default is clean/radio versions.

We’ve had clients ask us why the DJ mixes we post online bleep out cuss words. Well, it’s because it’s online, the new “radio”. Same as radio, we don’t know who is listening, so radio edits are used. We can play club/dirty versions at your event if you like, but our default suggestion is to hold off until “afterparty mode” where the 21-35 year olds will constitute the bulk of the audience.

Ultimately, your DJ is your advocate who will play your favorite songs, but at the same time, maintain exemplary professionalism. Your experienced DJ will be able to read the dancefloor and play the right version at the right time. But even when clean/radio versions are played, some on the dancefloor will know and sing out the explicit lyrics quite loudly lol. To you rebels on the dancefloor, we salute you.
