Even with our best efforts there will inevitably be some trash left over after a party. The best way to reduce the impact of this waste is to plan ahead.

Here are a few tips to make your party cleanup a little more eco-friendly:

♻️ Bring a Recycling Bin: Take a Blue Recycling Bin for any recyclable items so they don’t end up in the general trash. It's then easier to recycle at your party. Also, you're able to take them home and add to your household recycling or drop off at a local Recycling Center.

🍏 Collect Food Scraps: If you have access to a food waste collection service or a compost bin, bring a bin with a lid to collect any food scraps. This keeps them out of the general trash bin enabling your guests to compost them instead.

🥡 Sort Leftovers: Plan for any leftovers by reusable containers before the end of the party. As an alternative, you can ask your guests to bring their own containers for extra food. This way, you can distribute what’s left at the end of the party and ensure it gets eaten rather than wasted.

On Saturday, it was the OC Green Expo in Anaheim, CA where local sustainable vendors had the opportunity to promote sustainable products. Festiveknicknacks Sustainable Parties was honored to host a vendor booth to promote the Party Kit Network & Sustainable Parties.

This month were delighted to celebrate 3 years of Party Kit Network membership. I still remember the excitement of receiving our welcome email.

Seeing single-use tableware waste as an opportunity for growth, we can make a conscious choice. During a graduation celebration, I observed single-use tableware and decided to take action. My family and I normally opt for reusable tableware, but this time, we utilized potluck-style single-use tableware. As I served food onto my paper plate, it couldn't hold my food, so I used a potluck plastic cover for support it.

By choosing sustainable tableware options like bamboo plates, reusable tableware, and renting reusable tableware, we can reduce waste from hosting an event, party, meeting or workshop.

Happy National Egg Roll Day! This day rolls around on June 10 every year.

Did you know that one-third of all food produced is either lost or wasted each year? That’s a lot of uneaten food.

Here are three ways to reduce food waste at your next celebration, event or party:

😋 Try to create a realistic menu (which for children’s parties means accepting that most of the sandwiches or pizza won’t get eaten.

😋 Write a shopping list before going shopping to reduce the chance of last-minute panic buying, which can happen to even the most experienced party planner!

😋 Plan for leftovers. Ask guests to bring containers for extra food or use takeout containers to take the leftover food home.

😋 Donate leftover food to a Food Bank

😋 Plan for cooking & eating leftover over on the next day to avoid the food from going to waste.

Ditch single-use decorations and opt for reusable ones. There are so many to choose from!

🌟 Bunting: Colourful and can be reused many type of celebration or event.

🌟 Paper fans and lanterns. These are generally plastic-free and can be reused if you’re careful, although they aren’t keen on strong winds!

🌟 Fairy lights aren’t just for Christmas! They can add a little sparkle to any celebration, event or party. They will be reused many times.

🌟 If you’re having a themed party, see if you can borrow backdrops or props from your local Buy Nothing Facebook Group or Independent Party Kit Owner rather than buying stuff to throwaway.

Celebrate National Kids Day with an Eco-friendly Party! 🎉

Have you thrown an eco-friendly party? When planning a children's party, this might sound radical, but it's a powerful way to reduce the single-use tableware waste & carbon footprint of your party with some added benefits!

For the past four years, our daughter celebrated with eco-friendly parties. Here is how my husband & I planned it out:

This greener approach reduced single-use disposable tableware waste and unwanted gifts from going to the landfills. Also, it reduces how overwhelming a party can be for the birthday child and eases financial pressure on families to buy for a child they might not know that well.

Parties should be about making memories, having fun & spending time with friends and family
without sacrificing Mother Earth's wellbeing. 🌎

Diary of a Social Entrepreneur founder #1

Hi - I’m Dayna López-Price, founder/owner of Festiveknicknacks Sustainable Parties an Orange County Social Entrepreneur. I decided to start a sustainable party supply rental shop business because I noticed that there's a need for a solution to reduce single-use disposable waste from hosting celebration, events, parties & meeting.

I would start sharing what I’ve been up to each week. Here are my highlights from the last week….

🥳 I added 2 new themed party kits to our inventory of reusable party supplies including a Graduation Party & Superhero Party (which is an amazing opportunity to meet new clients.)

🥳 I excited to participate in the OC Green Expo as an USA Party Kit Network Ambassador & promote of Festiveknicknacks Sustainable Parties Party Kit.

🥳 Last weekend, my own party kits were booked a Graduation Party Party & borrowed for a Clothing Swap Event in Costa Mesa. This week, I recorded the number of single-use tableware avoided from going to the landfills.

🥳 Yesterday, I contributed our Wooden Arc & battery operated backdrop lights for our daughter Preschool Graduation Performance.

🥳 I was delighted to receive a fabulous to the IUSD the Green Team Sustainably Director by my supportive & kind coworker.

🥳 I volunteer at the Women’s Clothing Exchange event hosted by The Sister Local, the Babes of Orange County. It was an honor to collaborate by setting up the preloved clothing & bringing our 30- guests Party Kit to be utilized by participants.

🥳 I will attend my weekly The Queen Bee Networks networking Zoom Meeting this week.
Earlier this year, I was blessed with an opportunity to become the Bee Keeper. At the weekly Zoom Meetings, I'm Inspired to grow my business with the help of OC Women Entrepreneurs. It has been rewarding and I would definitely recommend it!

🥳 I made some post on our Social Media with upcoming Summer events and the upcoming Anaheim Public Utilities OC Green Expo which we're looking forward to participate in.

📚 I decided to share some of the preloved books which I swapped the Women's Clothing Exchange to the ELC Little Library. ( approximately 10 books)

🥳 And I’ve done more promoting for new Sponsorship, Future Collaborations, Donation Drive & Sustainable Parties Team Meeting. More on that next week!
