This isn’t my usual post.

Yesterday, a disaster struck Nepal, resulting in catastrophic landslides and flooding. It remains to be seen what the long-term effects of this natural disaster will be, but if it’s anything like what happened in 2015, it may be years before recovery is possible in some areas.

I know there have been a slew of natural disasters and other devastating events around the world in the last few months and years. It can be difficult to “choose” which disasters and groups and institutions to support with so much happening around the world.

For me, Nepal represents a place where tradition and family and community are still at the heart of the nation. Where nature and the mountains and God are all one and the same. Where, at least for now, AI and social media haven’t dug their claws in too deep. But it’s also a place where a huge amount of the population struggles to access basic needs, and with our international aid agencies being pulled in so many directions, this population needs support.

That said, September 5 is the second annual Sunrise Sale on Sanibel. Starting at 7:09 a.m., shops and businesses on the island will be open extra early for a unique shopping experience. I’ll be hosting a pop-up flower bar, with pre-ordered wrapped bouquets available on the island. All proceeds from the stem bar and bouquets will be given to aid agencies to give food, water, and medical aid, as well as temporary shelter, to those in need. If you know of any other agencies that are credible, please reach out privately.

Have you looked at the meadows and roadsides in Vermont this week? They’re filled with goldenrod in various stages of life-from the dead and decaying heads of the earliest flowers, to the late bloomers just hitting their stride.

Wild Queen Anne’s lace, too. Little nests and clusters gone to seed, growing right alongside newly opening and opened umbels, bouncing in the zephyrs that blow through the mountainsides.

Every shade of yellow, mustard, marigold, chartreuse, and butter. Polka dots of white aster and other wildflowers I don’t know the names of.

It reminds me of how we all bloom at different times. Some of the flowers get slightly more rain during their seed stage, so they grow a bit faster and a bit earlier. But once they die back and lose their glow, the others slowly creep towards the sunlight and rain.

So, wherever you are in your journey, the fields and meadows and roadsides filled with wildflowers should be a gentle reminder that we all bloom in our own time, in our own way.

I think that the best events are the ones that feel gathered and grown, not overly contrived or overly manipulated.

The flowers come from the earth, ideally within a 100 mile radius.

The ribbon is hand-dyed silk. The edges frayed by hand, spooled by hand, and mailed by hand.

A bee finds its way into a martini glass, drawn close by sticky sugar and flowers devoid of pesticides. By speckled bee balm and Prairie Sun rudbeckia and cherry caramel phlox.

Sometimes in a greenhouse, sometimes not. Ideally somewhere old and storied, maybe a little worn around the edges. That just makes the story more beautiful.

For this week’s Sunday Gather, I wanted to reflect on a late August garden fête in the countryside of northern Massachusetts, just south of the New Hampshire border. Sinéad and Jeremy’s whole intention was for it to feel like a fancy garden party. And what better location than a working greenhouse?

This wedding proved that sometimes, things can feel imperfect, and a little loose. That the main characters are you, your love, and only those who mean the most.

I fly back to Vermont tomorrow morning for my last northern wedding of 2026. I’m taking a long bubble bath, and heading to bed early to prepare for a 4:15 a.m. alarm. The airport awaits.

I’m gathering my last bits of rest before a chaotic week ahead-driving and flying, picking up and delivering, receiving and processing. Lots of flitting about. Lots of studio clean out. Even more design and creation for a wedding I’m feeling so excited about.

The Sturgeon Moon’s energy has been building for some time, coming to a head this Thursday evening. I hope we can draw from it the ancient wisdom and resilience, releasing inherited patterns and making space for new ones. It’s the perfect way to end August, to end this season, and to clear the way for what is to come.
