Can a marriage ceremony be conducted virtually in Texas? Yup!

Texas law doesn’t specify in-person requirements and I have confirmed with the the county I reside in (Denton county, where the marriage is “officiated”) that they permit virtual officiations.

Is it weird?

This may not be “for you” and that’s okay! Every couple has different needs and timelines for their legal wedding. I have helped couples across the state of Texas (and one from out of state) solemnize their marriage virtually. Some people prefer the no frills approach by legalizing their marriage from the comfort of their homes.

Currently, our services have shifted to license signings only at this time. That’s great news for couples that just want to make it legal without the frills of a full time ceremony!

License signing can be done in-person in Sanger, TX or virtually for any couple with a valid marriage license in any Texas county.

Denton county (which includes Sanger, TX) permits the use of virtual wedding officiation, allowing me to certify marriages across the state via video conferencing.

Congrats Cindy and Galen!

There is a wedding for every taste. For some, that means a traditional wedding. For others, the efficiency of a license signing with an officiant fits their lifestyle and needs to "make it official".

I had the honor of helping Cindy and Galen make their marriage official through video call this morning.

Denton County permits marriages to be conducted through video conferencing. The couple goes to their local county clerk and obtains a marriage certificate. A marriage certificate in Texas is valid for a wedding in any county in Texas. They then mail the certificate to me in Denton County.

After the 3 day waiting period (usually by the time the license has made it's way to me--I recommend tracking!), we set a time and date to officiate on video call. Both parties must be present. We cannot do a wedding with an absentee party!

Afterwards, I scan the document before mailing back to the couple or to their county clerk.

It's okay if it's not your vision for you. But for many couples, the simplicity of online officiation fits their needs and budgets. There may be a fear over elopements, license signings, and online officiations, but you are "just as married".

Letisia and David tied the knot this past weekend after postponing their wedding for a year due to Covid concerns. A pandemic was just a minor pause for celebrating the love they have for one another.

Cara and Omid had a beautiful backyard ceremony in Dallas (in May) and broadcasted it internationally so his parents could still be a part of their big day. Congrats!

CDC changes to mask recommendations! Good info for those planning conscious wedding celebrations.

Your officiant with CoPilot Weddings is fully vaccinated and conducting small weddings in-person and virtual weddings where permitted.

Virtual weddings are permitted statewide in Texas as long as you have a valid marriage certificate from any county in the state. Outside did Texas, we can check on the rules and regulations of your county for virtual weddings ceremonies that are legally binding.

I love seeing the beauty and simplicity of a simple license signing, affirming to all that love doesn't need lots of people or money to solemnize what already exists: the love in commitment.

Curious! Temporary marriages are available in some areas of Mexico! These marriages have been kicked around since 2011 in different areas of Mexico and offer 2-5 year terms for marriage. If a couple decides not to renew at the end of the contract, they are automatically divorced, thereby saving couples from long, drawn out divorce proceedings.

Mexico has just a 15% divorce rate and an average marriage of 12 years (better than the US!). The vast majority of those divorces happen around the 2 year mark.

As the article notes, "timing is important as each person is different and we can not bind blindly".

I personally think this is an interesting concept. Couples must continually affirm their commitment to each other. This is something we should be doing anyway! Every day, we should be confirming the importance of our marriage.
