6 Things Cats Only Do With Their Favorite Person

Cats don’t always show affection in obvious ways.

Instead, they communicate trust and attachment through small, quiet behaviors.

Here are some signs your cat may have chosen you as their favorite:

Turning Their Back to You
When a cat sits with its back turned or closes its eyes near you, it is showing trust.
In the wild, this position is vulnerable, so it means they feel safe in your presence.

Blocking Your Path
If your cat walks in front of you or sits in your way, it’s not just being stubborn.
It’s often a way of asking for attention or interaction.

Scratching in Front of You
Scratching is both marking territory and communication.
Doing it near you can be a sign that they consider you part of their safe space.

Following You Everywhere
If your cat moves from room to room with you, it likely sees you as a source of comfort and security.

Bringing You “Gifts”
Toys or sometimes prey are often brought as a form of sharing.
It’s instinctive behavior linked to their natural “provider” instincts.

Quietly Sitting Near You
When a cat simply chooses to rest beside you without demanding attention, it’s often offering calm companionship and trust.

Cats don’t love loudly.

They show it in subtle, consistent ways through presence, trust, and quiet companionship.

And once a cat chooses you… it’s usually for life.

Clean, drain, dispose! 🚤

When boating or fishing in Minnesota, protect your waters from the spread of aquatic invasive species.

CLEAN all visible aquatic plants, mud, zebra mussels, or other prohibited invasive species from watercraft, trailers, and other water-related equipment before leaving any access or shoreland. 🧼

DRAIN water-related equipment (boat, ballast tanks, portable bait containers, motor) and drain bilage, livewell, and baitwell by removing drain plugs before leaving a water access or shoreline property. Keep drain plugs out and water-draining devices open while transporting watercraft. 🚰

DISPOSE of unwanted bait, including minnows, leeches, and worms, in the trash. It is illegal to release bait into a waterbody or release aquatic animals from one waterbody to another. If you want to keep your bait, you must refill the bait container with bottled or tap water. 🗑

Some garden advice gets repeated so often it stops being questioned. Five pieces that sound right — and aren't 🌿

🌱 Gravel in the bottom of pots doesn't improve drainage:

- A layer of gravel actually raises the wet zone into the root area instead of below it. A continuous column of potting mix with perlite mixed throughout drains better than a layered pot. Skip the gravel. Drill more holes

🌱 Watering in midday sun doesn't burn leaves:

- Water droplets on smooth leaves don't focus enough light to scorch tissue. This has been tested. There ARE good reasons to water in the morning — less water lost to evaporation, and foliage dries before evening when fungal infections are most likely. Water early for those reasons, not because of sunburn

🌱 Eggshells don't add calcium quickly:

- Eggshells are one of the slowest-decomposing organic materials in soil. Crushed by hand and tossed in the garden, they take years to release anything a plant can use. If you want them to break down in one season, grind them to a fine powder first. Coarse pieces are still sitting in the soil when the next season starts

🌱 Used coffee grounds don't acidify soil:

- Brewing extracts most of the acid. Used grounds test nearly neutral. They're a fine addition to compost as a nitrogen source, but they won't lower pH for blueberries or azaleas the way most people assume. And don't spread them thick as a surface mulch — they form a water-repellent crust. Mix them into compost instead

🌱 Marigolds don't repel most pests:

- French marigold roots release a compound that suppresses a specific type of soil-dwelling nematode. That's real, but it's underground and it's specific. Marigolds planted among tomatoes don't repel aphids, beetles, caterpillars, or anything above ground. The strongest effect comes from growing marigolds as a cover crop and turning them into the soil at the end of the season — not from tucking a few plants between your vegetables

Five corrections. Same garden. Better decisions 🌿
