Join us on Thursday, September 18th, at the Showcase Theater, Marin Center for “Becoming a Birder” with Ed Yong. 🐦🎤📚

Pulitzer Prize-winning science writer Ed Yong will talk about his journey towards "Becoming a Birder." He'll share some of his birding photos and discuss how birdwatching fosters joy, wonder, and connection to the world around him. Drawing from his best-selling book An Immense World, he’ll also reveal the remarkable ways birds perceive reality through their sensory systems.

The talk will begin at 7 PM, but don’t miss the pre-show fun! Join Point Blue Avian Ecologists at “For the Birds Happy Hour” from 6–7 PM! Sip and chat with Point Blue scientists about current projects supporting shorebirds, birdbanding, and more. This event is also a wonderful way to kick off the Point Blue Bird-A-Thon, which runs from September 15th through October 15th!

Fox Family Productions of San Rafael presents a curtain call performance by reigning champion Frankie Marcos, hosted by past champion Johnny Steele.

Marcos took the crown last year with hilarious insights into Latin culture. Since winning, Frankie has toured Asia and Australia, travels which will no doubt result in new quips. Steele went from winning the Competition to an extended stint as a San Francisco radio personality. Still, as a multi-faceted talent, he never got over not becoming a professional football player.
Expect to hear all about it in rapid free flow jargon.

Join us for a private docent-led behind-the-scenes tour of the beloved Marin County Civic Center designed by renowned architect Frank Lloyd Wright!

The Marin Civic Center is one of the last major works of Wright’s career and his only realized project for a government entity.

In this exclusive tour, you’ll get access to the Marin County Board of Supervisors Chambers and their private balcony, you’ll be eye level with the building’s iconic blue roof, you’ll see custom furniture designed Frank Lloyd Wright and built by inmates from San Quentin’s wood shop, and you’ll learn the complicated and scandalous history of the creation of the building from specially trained docents.
