We actually couldn't be more excited to introduce you to Noah, joining us in September as the new full-time faculty for Cuesta Drama.

Noah Lucรฉ (he/they) is a director, actor, intimacy choreographer, and educator whose work spans professional, educational, and community-based theatre across the country. Noah serves as Associate Artistic Director of New Canon Theatre Company and is an Assistant Faculty Member with Theatrical Intimacy Education. They hold an MFA in Theatre Arts from the University of Idaho, an MA in Theatre from UC Santa Cruz, and a BFA from Cornish College of the Arts, and trained at the PCPA Conservatory.

Noah's work centers on bold storytelling, collaborative artistry, and creating spaces where artists can take meaningful creative risks with care and confidence. This summer, Noah directed ๐ผ ๐ด๐‘š ๐‘€๐‘ฆ ๐‘‚๐‘ค๐‘› ๐‘Š๐‘–๐‘“๐‘’ at Mendocino Theatre Company - it opens this weekend! As an actor, Noah has performed up and down the West Coast, most recently appearing in New Canon Theatre Company's world premiere of ๐น๐‘–๐‘›๐‘‘๐‘–๐‘›๐‘” ๐ถโ„Ž๐‘Ž๐‘ ๐‘’ by C. Wright and as Horatio in ๐ป๐‘Ž๐‘š๐‘™๐‘’๐‘ก. He has also appeared internationally in Anuvab Pal's new play ๐ด๐‘‘๐‘š๐‘–๐‘ ๐‘ ๐‘–๐‘œ๐‘› (EnActe & Rage Productions). As an intimacy, fight, and movement director, they have worked with Santa Cruz Shakespeare, Mendocino Theatre Company, City Lights Theater Company, The Western Stage, UC Santa Cruz, Theatre Rhinoceros, and Spreckels Theatre Company, among others.

Joining us this Saturday, August 29 at 7:30pm on the CPAC Mainstage, we arere thrilled to introduce you to Jamaal!

Jamaal Baptiste is a pianist, composer, arranger, and ethnomusicologist. He holds a BM and MM in Jazz Studies from the Indiana University (IU) Jacobs School of Music, as well as an MA and PhD in Ethnomusicology from IU. Baptiste is an Assistant Professor of Jazz at Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo, California.

Baptiste has collaborated with esteemed practitioners of Caribbean and Latin American popular music in the United States and has contributed to several albums by Grammy-nominated artists Michael Spiro and Wayne Wallace. He recorded on their album Canto Amรฉrica (2017), which was nominated for Best Latin Jazz Album. Prominent artists with whom Baptiste has performed include Gary Bartz, Avery G. Sharpe, Ronnie Burrage, Greg Osby, Carol Sudhalter, Lenora Zenzalai Helm, Dave Stryker, Steve Houghton, Ed Saindon, Jamey Aebersold, and Rob Dixon.

Baptiste is an original member of the Batuquรช Trio with drummer Andy Smith and bassist Natalie Boeyink. With this trio, he recorded the album ๐‘‡๐‘Ÿ๐‘Ž๐‘›๐‘ ๐‘๐‘Ž๐‘Ÿ๐‘’๐‘›๐‘๐‘ฆ (2015). He is also a co-founder of the NelBap Duo with saxophonist and clarinetist Ana Nelson and a member of CarlosBislipโ€™s Aruban Jazz Collective.

Finally, the brains behind this whole ๐’๐š๐ฑ๐จ๐ฉ๐ก๐จ๐ง๐ž ๐’๐ฎ๐ฆ๐ฆ๐ข๐ญ operation... MEET DAVE!

Dave Becker is an educator, arranger, performer, videographer, and producer. An educator at Cuesta College and Allan Hancock College, Dave enjoys teaching recording arts, rock, jazz, and world music appreciation. Heโ€™s very excited about his newly formed Central Coast Saxophone Coalition...

Dave has produced arrangements for the Cal Poly Mustang Marching Band and Wind Ensemble, the SLO Wind Orchestra, as well as performing with the 3D Trio and as a solo for local Elementary and Middle schools thru grant funding by the SLO County Office of Education. Dave is the president of the SLO County Jazz Federation and enjoys producing an annual concert for local high school and collegiate musician scholarship winners. Recently, Dave enjoyed arranging for and conducting an eleven-piece jazz orchestra that performed a live production of The Wizard of Oz with the SLO Civic Ballet.

Dave Becker has performed/recorded with Manhattan Transfer, The Temptations, Marvin Hamlish, Dianne Shuur, Andy Martin, Sam Rivers, Randy Brecker, Pete Christlieb, Eric Marienthal, Ernie Watts, Wayne Bergeron, Gordon Goodwin, Marcus Printup, Bob Sheppard, Bruce Foreman, and many more.

It's heating up again this week ๐Ÿฅต which is why we're especially excited to announce that Cuesta Drama is hitting the sand this Fall with:

๐‘ท๐’”๐’š๐’„๐’‰๐’ ๐‘ฉ๐’†๐’‚๐’„๐’‰ ๐‘ท๐’‚๐’“๐’•๐’š ...a gloriously unhinged spoof: November 12-22, directed by incoming Performing Arts faculty member, Noah Lucรฉ! This play by Charles Busch is a parody of 1950s beach movies, 1960s psychodramas, and 1970s slasher films. ๐Ÿ–

It's the summer of 1962, and Malibu Beach is packed with sun-bleached surfers, beach bums, and a whole lot of teenage drama. Chicklet Forrest just wants to catch a wave and win the heart of dreamy surfer Star Cat but, standing in her way, is Kanaka a.k.a. the swaggering "king" of the beach, her overbearing mother, and a cast of scene-stealing characters ready to crash the party. ๐‘ƒ๐‘ ๐‘ฆ๐‘โ„Ž๐‘œ ๐ต๐‘’๐‘Ž๐‘โ„Ž ๐‘ƒ๐‘Ž๐‘Ÿ๐‘ก๐‘ฆ is a fast, funny, wildly theatrical ride through surf culture, first love, and total chaosโ€ฆ with a few surprise personalities along for the ride.

The penultimate intro in our *Meet the Musicians* of the upcoming Saxophone Summit Concert 8/29 series... MEET JAKE!

Born and raised on the Central Coast and graduate of AUSD, Jake Hammer studied clarinet with Dave Becker as a middle school student. He later studied saxophone with Dave when he decided to pursue music performance and Cuesta College. After receiving a degree in Jazz Performance and a Recording Arts Certification at Cuesta, Jake continued his education in Saxophone Performance with B.M. at Cal State Northridge and an M.M. at Brigham Young University.

Jake has played music with a wide variety of groups, from classically oriented large ensembles to smaller jazz combos and rock bands. Since graduating Atascadero High School in 2010, Jake has taught private woodwind lessons and jazz improv lessons to all age groups, as well as K-5 elementary music, jazz band, guitar, ukulele, choir, concert band, and music production at a variety of schools. He currently teaches Band and Music at Atascadero Middle School and performs with a variety of local groups including Brass Mash, The Starlight Dreamband, the SLO Wind Orchestra, and the Central Coast Saxophone Coalition.

bree valle's performance research has been presented at the International Popular Culture Conference in Toronto Canada, International Drama/Theatre and Education in Bergen, Norway, PSi Conference at Penn State University, and the International Sound Symposium X in Newfoundland, Canada. Her students have gone onto professional television, commercial, and stage acting careers.

Her passion for theatre led bree on a lifelong journey of learning, growing, and inspiring others. In total, she directed over 90 shows nationally and internationally. In 2021, bree valle received the Gold Medallion the most prestigious award given by the Kennedy Centre in Washington DC for her work as a theatre director, and - in her next chapter - she'll continue to work as a freelance director and intimacy coordinator.
