Lessons I’ve Learned from Starting My Own Event Space Business in the Bay Area
1. It’s Not About What You Think—It’s About What They Think
It’s easy to assume you know what your customers want, but the reality is, their priorities might be completely different from yours. Just because something seems unnecessary or unimportant to you doesn’t mean it won’t make a huge difference to them. At the end of the day, what people are willing to pay for is what matters.
2. Volume Fixes Almost Anything
You’re not “bad” at something—you just haven’t done it enough. Sure, some people pick things up faster, but most skills come down to reps. The more you do something, the better you get. If something feels difficult or unnatural, that just means you haven’t put in enough intentional practice yet. Keep going.
3. No Matter the Culture, Parties Are the Same at Their Core
One of the coolest things about running an event space in the Bay Area is seeing how different cultures celebrate. While traditions vary—some love grand entrances, others prefer games or karaoke—every party boils down to the same key ingredients: good food, good music, and people having a great time. And no matter where they’re from, there’s always at least one auntie or grandma who trying to take our centerpieces!! I’m a have to hold that security deposit unless y’all return them.
