The thing that strikes my the most about all the beautiful tributes and remembrances of Alland Byallo are not the many accolades regarding his talent, his vision, the huge impact he made on San Francisco’s dance scene (knocking us on the head with bad-ass techno) or his inevitable move to Berlin…these are facts and big part of his story but that’s not what struck me just now. Nope… it is the repeating sentence “he was so kind”, “kind to me” that I keep reading over and over . It was literally the only thing I cared to share because that was my personal experience; we did not know each other well but I thought he was a class act and the encounters we did have always left me with the impression that I would enjoy working with with him and,
more importantly, getting to know him better.

I like kind. Kind is an essential quality I want in my friends and expect from myself. And to be remembered as “being kind” is such a lovely tribute: A tribute we should all aspire to.

Rest Well Alland. You will be missed.
