📣 From our friends at the San Francisco Arts Commission 🖼️

“I hope when people leave or even walk into and stand in the midst of, ‘I split the ground, so it would not close over me,’ they feel the strength of all three of us.” – Tricia Rainwater.

In the exhibition curated by Shirin Makaremi , two emerging Bay Area artists, Kelley Finley and Tricia Rainwater approach survival as both a personal and collective experience. Delving into personal and communal histories, the artists explore what it means to sustain communities and how resilience is an ongoing process.

✨ Some stages don’t just host performances — they bear witness to history. ✨

So deeply honored to have welcomed Oakland Ballet to the Herbst Theatre stage for their breathtaking Dancing Moons Festival: Angel Island Project — a work as profound as any that has graced this historic hall.

This wasn’t just a ballet. It was an act of remembrance. A tribute to the hundreds of thousands of Asian immigrants who passed through Angel Island’s detention center between 1910 and 1940 — their anguish, their hope, and their unbreakable spirit brought to life through movement, music, and poetry carved into walls.

Seven AAPI choreographers. A soaring score by composer Huang Ruo. The incomparable Del Sol Quartet. The voices of Volti choir under conductor Robert Geary. And Oakland Ballet’s extraordinary dancers — all of them pouring their hearts onto OUR stage.

We are proud that Herbst Theatre could be the San Francisco home for this milestone production. The Bay Area’s arts community is richer, deeper, and more beautifully whole because of work like this.

To Oakland Ballet, to the artists, to every audience member who showed up — thank you. 🙏🏽

The walls of Herbst hold the echoes now, too. 💫

Part opera, part party. 🎭 🎉

In the Barber’s Seville, schemers and scamps abound, donning disguises to match the latest intrigue. Whether it’s a count playing the soldier, a vixen playing the saint, or a music teacher spreading slander for the fun of it, everyone is chasing their hearts’ hidden desires. Who will you become tonight? What disguise will you slip on to join the game?

Tickets limited for this one-night-only event!

Some lobby content includes adult material; recommended for 21+. Only part of The Barber of Seville is performed during the Encounter event.

✨ Cinderella had her castle, we have the Green Room ✨

There’s something about this space that makes you feel like you’ve stepped straight into a fairytale. The gilded columns, the chandelier cascading down into infinity, the soft mint walls — it’s pure magic. 🕯️

Grateful for evenings that feel like a dream you never want to wake up from. 💫

🇺🇸 The San Francisco War Memorial & Performing Arts Center stands not just as a landmark of culture and art — but as a sacred tribute to those who gave everything so we could gather here freely. Today, we pause.

On this Memorial Day, we honor the fallen. The ones who never came home. The ones whose names are etched in stone and memory, whose courage carved the path for generations to come.

This building has witnessed history — from the signing of the United Nations Charter to countless performances that move the human spirit. But above all, it moves us to remember.

Take a moment today, wherever you are, to reflect. Light a candle. Say a name. Hold someone close.

Freedom is never free. Honor is forever. 🕊️
