The end of February means it's time to revisit what is still my favorite moment as a photographer; Yosemite Firefall 2.21.19

So many factors came together perfectly to create this absolutely once in a lifetime moment, and if I'm honest with myself I'm still chasing that high again.

If you had told me that one of my fondest memories would be climbing up the side of a mountain in waist deep powder, sitting on a little snow ledge for a hours desperately trying to keep my camera warm enough to function, and waiting for a few perfect moments before the terrifying descent back down the mountain in the dark I would have said you were crazy.

Thank you, as with every other year, to Dan Dunn and Afshin Shirazian for making the trip happen and pushing me to actually do this!

Very exciting news today

After months of struggle, my main account and Instagram are finally back!

It looks like someone at Facebook finally realized their mistake and restored my accounts.

Important lesson learned here; be careful what you name your dumb meme group because Facebook will delete you over it and it will take months to fix.

February 1st seems like the right time to post a Christmas photoshoot!

Amy and I had planned this before Christmas but unfortunately had to postpone.

We ended up shooting it around the first week of January instead.

A little late, but we couldn't let an outfit that cute go to waste.

System Of A Down releasing new music is some much needed good news in all this chaos. So here are a fee of my favorite shots of them playing at Aftershock Festival 2018.

In unfortunate news, my old Instagram account got disabled.
While it looks like this was a mistake and it should be back up shortly, I don't want to count on that. There's a good chance it was just a little too spicy for Instagram to handle, so I've made a new one!

It'll be a lot of the same kind of posts, but I'll be moving certain photo series and the shots that Instagram can't handle over to my Patreon. Most of them will be available for free!

Likely over a certain Meme group I was running with a friend
Which is actually pretty hilarious.
We got disabled minutes apart and the page got erased from history.

Thankfully I still had access to this page

Who killed the world?

I know all of my friends in California have either seen photos of the horrific effects of the fires, or saw it firsthand, so I wanted to add some side by side comparisons to really show how surreal it was.
I stopped by a few of my favorite spots to shoot and here's what I came out with.

Probably my favorite neon shots to date, and I found my new favorite neon sign! I decided to bring my camera to the grocery store the other day and I'm sure glad I did because we stumbled across this beauty.

Want all of the Corona Virus killing goodness and none of the calories? Try Diet Clorox today!

Today seemed like an appropriate day to dig up these shots that I never really posted when I took them. From way back around the end of 2017 and probably the 2nd or 3rd shoot Brianna and I ever did. Even if it was less of a shoot and more of a chance to show off our new shirts.

Hope everyone's staying safe and healthy, and remembering how important cleaning and sanitation are right now! Wash your hands but please don't actually drink bleach, even if it is the low calorie diet stuff!

A couple old favorites from the archives to add a little more color to your day & several important updates;

First of all I made a Patreon for anyone that's interested. I'll be posted first looks at recent shoots, exclusive shots that I don't post anywhere else, outtakes, uncensored photos, behind the scenes stuff, as well as photography & editing tips and lessons. I'll also be doing shoot and print giveaways and offering discounts on both of the above to my patrons. So if you like what I do and want to support or learn my secrets go check it out!

Second, speaking of photoshoot giveaways; the shoot giveaway is still happening with a couple of small changes. First is that entry is open until the quarantine ends, so you have more time! Second is that I will be doing TWO free mini photoshoots instead of one, so twice the chances to win. Third is that anyone who becomes a patron on my Patreon will automatically get an additional 5 entries!

Finally, the upcoming shoot with KritterKlips Liquid Dreams is still happening! It's also been delayed with everything going on so don't worry if you haven't heard back from me about it yet!

I'm incredibly fortunate to still be employed with all of the chaos right now, but not having any events or models to shoot has definitely taken a significant bite out of my income and made life much more difficult.

Heavy Ghost Town Vibes

Last night after picking up my roommate at the airport I decided to make a little detour because I had a feeling the view would be a little different. And damn was I right.

Seeing Market St completely empty was pretty surreal and there were maybe 5 other people up at the top with us. We wished each other a happy end of the world and enjoyed this pretty unique view of the city for a while.

Playing with Re-Editing some old photos (Primarily 2012-2015 vs 2020) and the difference is almost as staggering as Before/Afters of completely unedited photos.

It's hard for me to see how much my style has changed and how much I've improved with out these direct before and after comparisons.

I'm definitely guilty of getting caught up in a few trendy editing styles like the faded look that was really popular for a few years. The biggest piece of unsolicited advice I could give to other photographers when it comes to editing is to not worry about the trendy styles of the time that probably won't age well, and just focus on what you think looks good and suits your own style. Well, that and to keep your hand off the clarity slider until you learn some self control. (Looking at you 2011-2013 Johnny)

Speaking of editing advice,
After a few recent posts I've gotten a lot more interest than I expected so I'm going to be releasing a few video tutorials on photo editing basics and workflow, as well as a few more advanced ones including MiDi mapping for Lightroom.

I'm also playing with the idea of releasing some of my basic presets for Lightroom if anyone is interested and possibly my MiDi profiles.

Finally, more than a few people have messaged me interested in one-on-one photo editing classes or lessons and if I get enough interest I might start doing that. If you're interested shoot me a message!

And enjoy these old vs new edits.

I might release a few unedited vs fully edited versions of my recent work in the near future if I'm feeling brave enough.
