Still pinching myself that I get paid to talk about what I love to do. Our last class was at 1550 Mission St. and the participants once again amazed me with their creativity! Funny how some follow my suggestions to a T and others just freestyle it. Either way, the results are impressive.

Hi everyone! We may be a tiny flower shop, but we're also a well-oiled machine. After 13 years we know exactly how much we can handle and once we reach that threshold we will no longer be taking orders. Everyone seems to be ordering early this year so don't miss out! And if you do, don't worry. We plan to have plety of options at various pricepoints for our walk-in customers too.

The rain kept our friends at @radicalfamilyfarms away from the farmers market over the weekend and we got lucky! Sarah brought in the wreaths she meant to sell there —so now we get to sell them in the shop! Before we could get those beauties out of the boxes, people wanted to buy them. They’re super cute and unique and come in different sizes. I grabbed one as a Christmas present for @vgycx! 😉

Where to even begin…Bell and Trunk went from having one of our worst years in business to having one of the best years EVER. I am SO grateful to everyone who bought flowers and showered us with generous words of appreciation and encouragement. I wouldn’t still be here if it weren’t for you. 🙏 💕 💕💕💕
I’m also grateful for our flower shop ninjas Jennifer Molly, Grace and Zoe who are handling a higher volume that ever with stealth and a smile. Thank you for always having my back and an awesome attitude when things get hectic. Also grateful to our ninjas-in-training, Veronica and Sophie. We can eat, move our cars and pee now thanks to you. 🥷 💐
Also on the gratitude list is our friends at the SF Flower Mart. You were there for Bell and Trunk and other floral design businesses while dealing with a scary pandemic, changing health mandates, supply chain and shipping issues, a worker shortage and more. Thanks for keeping us all going! Another glorious silver lining for us during the pandemic was the discovery of Sarah and Radical Family Farms. ❤️🐓 Our favorite days of the week were the ones in which you brought to our door step the freshest, most stunning, sustainably grown blooms. We can’t wait to see what next year yields for business and our friendship.
Lastly, I’m so very grateful to the 18th Street merchants, Ruby Wine, Aurora, Farley’s, Christopher’s, Hazels and all the others for creating such a vibrant community that people feel proud of and want to visit and support. The biggest thank you goes to my newest neighbor Dario at Aurora for knowing what it means to work together and look out for each other. So glad you’re next door.
This past year has really brought home for me how much I absolutely cherish what I do for a living. The ups and downs are worth it when we’re on the ride together. Happy Thanksgiving everyone! 🦃 🦃🦃

Working at a flower shop gives us insight into people’s love stories every day. From love at first sight to love after loss, we will share a unique story with you starting this month. Society puts a lot of pressure us to be coupled and have it look a certain way but we know better. Love happens on love’s terms and each one of us is worthy of our own special love story. I’m realizing more and more how much of a moving meditation these daily flower orders can be. Most of the time it begins as a gesture of kindness. Sue is on the east coast and wants to send flowers to her sister Jane. Sue thinks Jane would like a garden inspired arrangement. Sue is sending flowers to Jane because her longtime companion, a cat named Rudy, is dying. Using all of this information in a flower shop overflowing with blooms, a flower arrangement is born. And it’s almost always with our favorite music playing in the background. Over the years I’ve learned to let go of the rules and rather trying to force a flower to do what it doesn’t want to do to fit a certain mold, I allow the flowers to inform the shape, design and even color palette of a floral arrangement. The rose-hips, celosia and zinnias have creative control. The result is as one-of-a-kind as it gets. Not only has our flower arranging evolved over the years I’d to think that maybe we have evolved too. Leave it to flowers to be life changing.
This dark and stormy weather reminds me of one of my favorite flowers, the paper white narcissus. As a kid growing up in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania, this time of year was usually the beginning of a long, dreary winter. After the red and golden leaves had dropped, we were often cooped up inside for days, longing to go outside to play. The biting cold air would numb our noses and chill us to the bone so we would cozy up inside our home. When the sunshine got brighter and the air got warmer we reveled in the subtle signs of spring. Narcissus would peek out of piles of melting snow. The strong fragrance was a visceral reminder that nothing stays the same and that freedom to be outdoors is here once again. We decided to capture a little bit of that essence here at Bell and Trunk. We potted winter's most precious flower, the Paperwhite Narcissus, within this premium glass terrarium with a ceramic base. This festive gift is perfect for someone with a clean, minimalist style. Or a little bit of seasonal nostalgia.
Our newest Bell and Trunk team member, Grace, made a her first bridal bouquet today and I’m obsessed. What a beauty!
Flowers for Fiores.
Brenda and I signed up to do our first AIDS LifeCycle two years ago, before Covid was a thing. It has been cancelled twice now. I’ve switched gears to other sports but Brenda has kept her training going. She’s currently on the road solo —riding her bike over seven days to L.A. Brenda’s amazing parents are her roadies and they are camping together along the way. This Mills College/Bell and Trunk alumna’s quest to raise money for ALC is such an inspiration. She didn’t even own a bike when she signed up. Now look at her! Please consider sending messages of support and generous donations too!
