Vinh Nguyen Photography For the couples who value emotional story telling and true to life photography. Wedding & Portrait Photographer

Photography, to me, is more than a mere snapshot; it's a portal that transports us back to the emotions, the laughter, and the whispered secrets of a moment. Over the years, I've come to realize that it's not just about capturing images; it's about encapsulating the very essence of those instances that define us. Each time I press the shutter, I'm not just freezing time; I'm preserving the soul of that moment, ready to be revisited whenever the heart desires.

A last-minute debut session at the Legion of Honor, captured in soft light and timeless elegance.

And of course, we had to include the one who’s been there through it all — mom.

Happy Birthday, Alexa ✨

There’s something surreal about returning to a place that once felt so ordinary, and seeing it through a completely different lens. I remember coming here as a kid with my parents while they handled paperwork with the city of San Rafael. It felt quiet, structured, almost intimidating. Just a place you moved through, not a place you experienced.

And now here I am, years later, creating in the same space. What once felt routine now feels inspiring. The light, the lines, the architecture all became part of the story we were telling. It’s a reminder that beauty isn’t always about the location, it’s about how you see it.

The day itself was gently overcast with a light drizzle, unexpected for this time of year, but it gave everything a softness that made the moments feel even more intimate. The couple started off a little nervous, which is so normal, but with a bit of guidance and space to just be themselves, everything shifted. By the end, they were relaxed, connected, and fully present with each other.

Seeing them in traditional Filipino wedding attire in this modern, understated setting was such a beautiful contrast. It felt timeless and personal all at once.

It’s moments like these that remind me why I love what I do. Taking a place from my past and turning it into something meaningful for someone else’s story.

Most couples choose their photographer based on how the photos look.

And while that’s important… there’s a lot more to it than that.

Your photographer plays a role in the experience from the very beginning — starting with your engagement session and continuing all the way through your wedding day.

During your engagement session, you get comfortable in front of the camera.
You learn what posing feels like.
You start building trust with the person who will be documenting one of the most important days of your life.

By the time the wedding day arrives, it doesn’t feel like a stranger holding a camera.

It feels like working with someone who understands you, knows how you interact as a couple, and knows how to guide you when needed.

A great photographer knows when to step in and help direct things…
and when to step back so real moments can naturally unfold.

They help keep portraits efficient.
They understand lighting and timing.
And they create space for you to actually enjoy your day.

Because the best wedding photos don’t come from forced poses.

They come from moments where you’re relaxed, present, and simply enjoying the experience together.

If you’re planning your wedding and looking for a photographer who values both the experience and the images, I’d love to hear about your plans.

The first year goes by in a blur.
One day they’re learning to sit, the next they’re standing on their own.

This little at-home studio setup was created to honor that first milestone — simple, soft, and centered on what matters most.

She may not understand the balloons or the cake yet.
But one day, she’ll see these photographs and know she was deeply loved.

The beautiful thing about photography is this:
we rarely recognize the full weight of a moment while we’re in it.

That’s why it’s an investment.
Not just into images —
but into memory, into family, into legacy.

And unlike most investments,
its value doesn’t decrease with time.

It grows.

The older she gets,
the more priceless these become.

And what I love most?

You didn’t need a big venue.
You didn’t need an elaborate production.

Just light, intention, and presence.

Weather in San Francisco is never fully predictable — especially at Golden Gate Overlook and Baker Beach.

It can be windy.
It can be bright.
It can shift quickly.

And almost every couple shares the same concerns before their session:

“We don’t know how to pose.”
“What do we do with our hands?”
“What if the weather doesn’t cooperate?”
“How do we choose the right locations?”

Here’s what I want you to know:

You don’t need to have this figured out.

That’s my role.

Before your session, I help you:

• Choose locations based on light, wind direction, and crowd patterns
• Plan wardrobe colors that complement the landscape
• Build a timeline that allows flexibility for weather changes
• Understand where we’ll start and how we’ll move throughout the session

During your session, I provide gentle direction — not stiff posing.

Small adjustments.
Natural movement.
Clear guidance.

So you never feel unsure of what to do.

When the wind picked up, we used movement.
When the sun was strong, we shifted angles.
When the light softened, we slowed down.

Preparation creates freedom.

The less you have to think about logistics,
the more you can focus on each other.

And that’s when the best images happen.

If weather, posing, or timing has been on your mind — know that it’s already part of the plan.

Now booking 2026 engagement sessions.

Photographing surprise proposals is honestly one of the wildest jobs because you truly never know what you’re walking into… but you better not be the one to blow the guy’s cover 😅

So here I am at Filoli Gardens, fully committed to my role as:
“Asian tourist with a professional-grade camera who definitely loves flowers… and maybe macro photos of bugs.”
(just kidding… kind of)

I told him, “Meet at this exact spot. I’ll blend in. You just follow the script.”

They walk up, and I think it’s them, but you never want to accidentally approach the wrong couple and ruin someone else’s peaceful garden stroll. So I stick to the plan.

He asks me, “Hey, can you take a photo of us on my phone?”
I tell them, “Wow, it’s your lucky day! I’m actually an amateur photographer building my portfolio. After I get this shot on your phone, mind if I take a couple on my camera? I promise I’ll send them to you as a gift.”

So there I am, photographing them on this thing called an iPhone, which apparently is better than all the big ‘professional D-bag cameras’ Canon and Sony make (according to the internet).
But then… I pull out my Canon D-bag camera with the long 70-200mm, just to let them know I’m serious about this “portfolio” of mine — and that I’ve retired from photographing birds in national parks.

That’s his cue.

He takes a breath… gets down on one knee… and starts reciting something he memorized. She instantly brings her hands up to her face — that moment when everything finally clicks and her whole heart drops in the best way.

From behind the lens, I can’t help but smile.
These are the moments we chase — the real ones, the fleeting ones, the ones you only get once. There are no re-dos in proposals. When it happens, you get it or you don’t. And you better believe I got it.

And yes… she said YES.
And yes… she looks absolutely radiant being newly engaged.

But wait — it gets better.

They invited me to their engagement party afterward, where he had a whole surprise waiting: a trail of roses leading from the door all the way to the celebration with their closest friends. Like — tell me chivalry is dead. It’s not. At all.

Ladies… don’t settle.
There are men out there planning entire experiences like this because you are worth it — worth the effort, the intention, the nerves, the flowers, the planning, all of it.

What a blessing to witness moments like these. 💍✨

Happy anniversary, Kyoko & Chris ❤️
Two years already — one of the sweetest couples I’ve ever worked with.

It always warms my heart seeing couples celebrate another year of marriage. It’s not always easy — it takes communication, forgiveness, and choosing each other daily — but that growth is what makes it beautiful.

To all the couples celebrating anniversaries this season: I’m cheering for you. Every year is a milestone of love, compassion, and purpose, whether you’re building a family or simply enjoying the season you’re in.

And to the newly engaged couples — this is what you get to look forward to. Not just a wedding day, but years of memories and moments that remind you why you said yes.

After nearly 16 years as a full-time photographer, I don’t just show up for one day. I follow my couples, root for them, and celebrate their wins long after the wedding. Connection matters — that’s why I do what I do.

If you want a photographer who’s invested in your story long after the last photo is taken, I’d love to chat. 💍✨

Marylynn & Phil ✨ Bhachu Vineyards, Martinez, CA

Okay… can we talk about a glow-up?
Not just the dress. Not just the florals.
But the whole energy of the day.
From quiet nerves → to full-on celebration mode,
these two transformed a hidden vineyard corner into their own little world. 🍇💐

My job?
Not to force a vision.
Not to stage a fake fairytale.
But to document what was already there:

✨ The way Marylynn carried that floral hoop like a runway moment
✨ Phil pretending he wasn’t emotional (we all saw it)
✨ The bridesmaids turning the ceremony lawn into a Vogue cover shoot
✨ Their sunset veil portraits — cinematic doesn’t even cut it

Weddings aren’t just timelines and decor.
They’re transformation.
They’re “this is our story, and today we get to live it out loud.”

I’m just here to make sure the way it felt never fades.

Cheers to Marylynn & Phil —
for bringing color, joy, and pure heart to every frame. 🥂💛

Jennifer and Chris’s wedding at Sandos Finisterra was a sun-kissed dream in Cabo — the perfect blend of elegance, romance, and effortless destination-wedding magic. From the warm terracotta walls of the resort to the ocean views and cascading stone staircases carved into the cliffs, every moment felt intentionally designed to tell their story.

The day began with the girls getting ready in matching satin sets, heart-shaped sunglasses, and that contagious excitement that fills a room on a wedding morning. Jennifer looked absolutely radiant — her floral lace gown catching the light as she moved through the resort, each portrait feeling soft, airy, and timeless.

Chris complemented her perfectly in a clean light-grey suit, and together they shared quiet, romantic moments overlooking the coastline before joining their bridal party for portraits full of laughter and life. Their ceremony on the terrace, framed by palm trees and mountain views, captured everything they envisioned: elegance, warmth, and a celebration grounded in love.

What made their day truly special was watching their vision become real — the transformation from “planning” to “this is actually happening.” My role is simply to honor that transformation… to make sure you feel comfortable, seen, and supported so your story is documented honestly and authentically. It’s not about my vision — it’s about bringing your vision to life in its truest form.

A quick question for you:
When you imagine your own wedding photos, what do you want them to make you feel?
That helps me make sure the experience and the final images align with the transformation you’re hoping for — from the nerves and excitement in the morning to the joy and presence that fills the rest of the day.

11/09/2025

Cabo, you’ve been a gift.
Every time I pack my bags to capture love, I’m reminded — this isn’t just work, it’s my job way of giving back to life.
To witness two hearts become one, to feel the laughter and the tears, to hold moments that will never happen again — it’s holy ground.

But even the most beautiful assignments have their end.
And while I’m grateful for every soul I met here, my heart aches to be home — with my wife, my dogs, my little world that reminds me what love looks like when no one’s watching.

So I’ll leave this place with gratitude in my hands and peace in my chest,
ready for what’s next —
moving with purpose,
moving with love.
