Join us for the ninth annual Out! Raleigh festival on May 4, 2019 from 11am to 6pm on Fayetteville Street in Downtown Raleigh.

This inclusive and action packed event is family friendly, with activities for all ages offering live entertainment, local vendors and artists, great food, a KidsZone, and a beer garden! There is no admission fee.

In the last eight years, the event has become an integral part of Raleigh’s downtown culture, promoting diversity awareness as well as a sense of inclusiveness for the LGBT community and its allies, both inside and outside of the Triangle. Each year has been more successful than the last, and this year will be no exception.

Nothing wrong with having a bacon sandwich with a soft fried egg on griddles whole wheat bread for lunch. Only thing better would have been having some arugula to add to it but I was too hungry and lazy to go to the store.

My all time favorite dish when we visited my sister in Florence was the because it is a symphony of flavors and textures. A pork loin perfectly seasoned with garlic, fennel seeds, salt and pepper then encase it in pork belly separated by a layer of shaved fennel and herbs. Roasted low and slow until tender and juicy with a perfect layer of crispy pork skin on the outside. It is heavenly and decadent. Our dinner tonight at culminated an an exquisite rendition of porchetta. Every bite was tender and unctuous. Hats off to the chef for an exceptional meal.

Fabulous dinner at Trophy Tap + Table - grilled pork with sweet potato purée, roasted brussel sprouts, shaved apple and grilled onion topped with chimichurri. The Golden Sour (6% barrel aged golden ale) was a perfect accompaniment @ Trophy Tap and Table

By its very nature, life is replete with change. Some changes are predictable as time moves inexorably forward. Other changes are sudden and require you to be agile and flexible. You have to make decisions quickly assessing the risks versus rewards, determining if the pros out way the cons. No time for second guessing. No time for regrets. Time to "keep moving forward" in the sage words of Walt Disney.

Our family life changed this past week when, for medical reasons, we moved my mother-in-law permanently in with us. Some of you have been or are already walking in my shoes at this very moment. It's not an easy path to tread and the adjustments are not just a change to your physical space. There are emotional and psychological adjustments that happen in real time whether you are prepared for them or not.

Despite the difficulties, one of the adjustments we need to make is to take a hiatus from Golden Joy Feasts to figure out our new normal. I wish I had a clear cut answer on when we will return, but I don't want to make promises I can't keep. All of my energy will be devoted to making lasting memories for my kids. Making sure they have no regrets and to keep moving forward.
