FLOWER POWER - It turns out that the 1960s activists who chanted "flower power" were onto something important. Flowers, just like peace, are good for our mental health. With having fresh flowers and/or potted plants around, Researchers shows that (1) sick patients in hospitals needed less Post-Op pain meds, had lower systolic BP/pulse rate and less anxious (2) Diners at restaurants seem to be in better mood (3) Cognitive perfomance is better in offices; (4) At home, couples are happier, energized, relaxed and makes us want to keep a cleaner home. Smelling floral scents also seems to put us in a good mood and make us feel less anxious, and can bring us to a nostalgic time and happy place. Less saturated and brighter colors are generally more relaxing, while bold saturated colors will energize you. Think of flowers as part of your mental health treatment program.
