Solstice Flowers. ✨🌸💖💕✨

Good grief, Rach! The beauty you're growing & bringing to this community genuinely delights my soul. It is an honor to design with your blooms.

I am majorly, totally butt crazy in love with these devastatingly beautiful dahlias from . Each one has its own unique personality & nuances in color & shape. Truly the most stunning dahlias I've ever held in my hands, grown right here in SD. Thank you, Rachel. Thanks for toiling away in the gardens for us.

You'd think after more than 2 decades of going to the flower market, it would be old hat for me, but I still get so excited to see what treasures await. What new variety, rare beauty or veteran workhorse will be there to greet me. Also, lots of hugs & smiles from all my flower people. It's a pretty great way to start the week.

Mothers.

If I'm lucky enough to live to be a wise old crone, I hope that I'll remember these magical flower moments & that they will delight me as much then as they do now. ✨

Mother Earth
I am made of dirt and grit and stars and river, skin, bone, leaf, whiskers and claws. I am a part of you, of this, nothing more or less. I am mycelium, petal, pistil and stamen. I am branch and hive and trunk and stone. I am what has been here and what is coming. I am energy and I am dust. I am wave and I am wonder. I am an impulse and an order. I am perfumed peonies and the single parasol tree in the African savannah. I am lavender, dandelion, daisy, dahlia, cosmos, chrysanthemum, pansy, bleeding heart and rose. I am all that has been named and unnamed, all that has been gathered and all that has been left alone. I am all your missing creatures, all the sweet birds never born. I am daughter. I am caretaker. I am fierce defender. I am griever. I am bandit. I am baby. I am supplicant. I am here now, Mother. I am yours. I am yours. I am yours.

I have been feeling very clearheaded lately and what I want to write about today is the sea. It contains so many colors. Silver at dawn, green at noon, dark blue in the evening. Sometimes it looks almost red. Or it will turn the color of old coins. Right now the shadows of clouds are dragging across it, and patches of sunlight are touching down everywhere. White strings of gulls drag over it like beads.
It is my favorite thing, I think, that I have ever seen. Sometimes I catch myself staring at it and forget my duties. It seems big enough to contain everything anyone could ever feel.

All The Light We Cannot See

First note how the bud
has its season. How it
waits with a grace that
needs no words, no color.
So suddenly it changes
and unfolds freely,
nothing hinders such
expansion, nothing pulses
against its beauty
but oh how it beckons
more and more as we do
now, with minds blooming,
with the next phase
of scent set to lure
us onward into wholeness
again and again

I can't stop thinking about the research that came out last week about an 87 yr old man that unexpectedly died of a heart attack while he was getting an EEG recording of his brain activity. The only known recording of its kind thus far. The brain activity was associated with memory recall, which lead the doctors to hypothesize that in the moments just before we die, our life does actually flash before our eyes. It has me thinking about what my final movie reel will be. My most precious loved ones? Meeting my husband? The birth of my son? Flowers? The many beautiful places I've been in nature? Pets? Cheese? Whatever it is, I know it will be beautiful.

I'm not complaining (cuz I love where I live) so much as checking in with everyone else, but the Santa Anas are turning my eyes into sandpaper & my skin into parchment. Next time you see me in person, I will be dust. Wish the rain would visit us again. I miss it.
Floral Notes: Sunshine & citrus. All the prettiest protea & blooming branches are arriving at the flower market.
Monday Hawk Count: 7 so far today, in case anyone cares.
K love you Byeeee✌️

I know that not many people see these posts anymore, but thank you to those of you that are still here after all these years & those of you that do see, acknowledge & appreciate my art. It truly means so much to me to know that what I'm doing might bring a moment of pause, lightness or delight into your world.

I saw 9 hawks today. All in different parts of the county. Usually I only see between 3-5 each day, but today was 9. One of them may have been a kestrel because it was small, but that's a lot, right?! I blew kisses to them all, as I always do & thanked the universe for the gift. It was a good day. ✨

Neighbor Mary brought me these turning & drying foliages. She told me I've changed the way she sees dead & dying plants & that she has a newfound appreciation for them. 😭 We love to flit about in her backyard & chirp excitedly about the flowers, plants, bugs, pottery & all the things.

Thank you for being here, living your unique & precious life.

If you have the desire & courage to go out shopping this weekend, please consider checking out my retail space, Cocoon, if you haven't already. We've curated it with lots of great gifts & if you don't find something in our space, there are a ton of other small businesses to support in our building. And as always, thank you for all of your likes, comments, shares and support all year long. You help make this small biz lady keep on keepin' on. You have my gratitude. ✨💖

Last night at bedtime, my son ranked his current top 5 favorite spoonerisms that my peri-menopause brain fog has gifted him. They never fail to make him laugh & I love that he ranked them. I know this is my karma for laughing at my own mother's spoonerisms when I was a teenager, (Sorry Mom!) but I'm happy I can still make him laugh, even if it is at my expense. In case you were curious:
1. Lone Pone
(me trying to say Lone Pine)
2. Line Pine
(me trying to say Lone Pine again)
3. S'mor-ezz
(s'mores)
4. We can solve all these pretzels (puzzles)
5. Something hilarious that he couldn't remember because he was too tired & I couldn't remember because ☁️🧠☁️
Flowery notes: this🍷vanda orchid.
