It is with an incredibly heavy heart that I am writing to announce that Gumnut Gatherings is closing its doors, effective immediately.

I am heartbroken.

This has been an extremely difficult decision, and one that has come with a great deal of thought and reflection.

Gumnut Gatherings was started through Covid as a way to honour my mum, my heritage, and of course - Australia, which makes this moment especially emotional. It has not been easy to come to this decision, and many tears have been shed throughout the process.

A combination of external pressures has made it impossible to continue operations. The recent rise in fuel costs, along with the impact of new tariffs, has placed significant strain on my small business. In addition, an alarming number of Southern California growers and family-owned, sustainable flower farms have been forced to close, leaving me without the reliable local suppliers that I depend on.

Additionally and most importantly, I am currently facing urgent ongoing family matters that require my immediate and full attention.

Please take note of the following regarding my final operations:

Future Business: All future business, orders, and services have stopped immediately. I am no longer accepting new projects or deliveries.

Paid Orders: All current paid orders have been made, shipped, and delivered.

Outstanding Invoices: Any unpaid invoices currently outstanding are hereby canceled. All clients have been contacted and you are no longer required to remit payment for these specific open bills. These projects have all been canceled.

I want to thank you all so much for your ongoing support of a small Aussie mum-run small business here in America, and for being a part of my journey to today. I am deeply grateful and honoured for the community, the friendships, and the connections that I have built and for the opportunity to have shared my love for the uniqueness of our beautiful Australian wildflowers with you.

Thank you for your understanding during this challenging transition.

A while ago, I stepped way outside my comfort zone I did a branding shoot with some extraordinary women (and one was an Aussie).

To be able to surround yourself with people who understand your vision, your drive and your "why" is so important, especially amidst the constant hustle and chaos of running a small business!

I want to say a huge thank you to Becky at for letting me take over your gorgeous home for a few hours.

Thank you to Precious Sweets By Janina for the incredible cake, and to Mariela Molina Campbell and a mother daughter team who NAILED my vision first go!

Running an Australian focused business outside of Australia has been a challenge. So many people asking why? But deep down I know that what I bring to every table is the best of Australian spirit & heart! I will always pride myself in my work - be it coordinating or officiating a wedding ceremony, or doing the flowers for wedding or military ceremonies, I use the very best locally grown (in San Diego County) Australian wildflowers. I try to reduce my carbon footprint as much as possible by not using imported flowers.

So here it goes - G'day, my name is Skii (pronounced SKEE). I am from outback Western Australia & the Northern Territory, and I have been in the wedding industry since the late 1990's. Yes, I am THAT old! I have worked in 5 star hotels doing weddings in Australia. Then I was singing and officiating weddings in Japan in the 2000's, to now running a small planning/coordination, and florals business in San Diego, California. Recently I bought a Southern California Officiant Collective called Your Wedding Belles.

I am a single mum to two boys and a gorgeous velcro Aussie Shepherd (ironicly enough). I am an only child and a fiercely independent woman who prefers alone time over group gatherings.

I love to travel but haven't been anywhere since 2019, so obviously that needs to change soon!

I try to wear and use as much Aussie brands as possible here in the USA. My trademark now is wearing my old Akubra Hats and my Blundstone US when I work (and at play).

Coffee shops, music, true crime, Japanese food, and morning coffee in the sunshine is my jam.

Sadly I was not able to attend the ANZAC Commemoration onboard the this year due to having bronchitis.

Mr 15 and I delivered the wreaths and flowers early morning before the guests arrived, and then said hi to friends from afar before heading home and back into bed.

It is always such an honour to be a part of this commemoration every year, and part of our strong Australian community.

ANZAC Day is so important to me, especially in remembering the sacrifices and hardships of my grandfather's who all fought in WWI and WWII.

Lest We Forget...

This year it was my honour to make wreaths for:

Australian Consul General Tanya Bennett on behalf of Australia.

New Zealand Consul General Katja Ackerley on behalf of New Zealand.

Canadian Consul Michael Willmott on behalf of Canada.

Ireland’s Honorary Consul Peter O’toole on behalf of Ireland.

Commodore Luke Ryan will lay a wreath on behalf of the Australian Defense Force.

Captain Wilson Trumper will lay a wreath on behalf of the New Zealand Defense Force.

VADM John Wade, USN will lay a wreath on behalf of the United States Military.

FLTLT Lindsay Welch will lay a wreath on behalf of Ms Jessie Strike‑McClelland in memory of her late husband Mr Billie Strike‑McClelland. Jessie is a102 year old Women’s Auxiliary Australian Air Force WWII Veteran from San Clemente, who unfortunately could not make it due to ill health.

Bodhi McMullan on behalf of those children whose parents served their country
