Urgent Call to Action: Save Yorktown Memorial Hospital
On Friday, August 22, 2025, the City of Yorktown posted a public notice stating that Yorktown Memorial Hospital is officially closed to the public. This unexpected notice was issued without warning, citation, or any prior code violations. As the new owners (under two months) who have been working tirelessly to preserve and restore this historic site, this decision was deeply surprising and disheartening.
Tours and investigations have been taking place in the building for years—long before our ownership. Since 2019, we have conducted over 20 tours and investigations of Yorktown Memorial Hospital—without a single recorded code violation or safety warning during this time. Now, without any due process or communication, the city has made our business inaccessible to guests, cutting off a source of education, tourism, income, and community engagement.
Why This Matters
Yorktown Memorial Hospital, constructed in 1951 by the Felician Sisters of the Roman Catholic Church, stands as a vital piece of Texas history. It represents:
* The legacy of Catholic healthcare in rural Texas
* One of the earliest Polish-American settlements in the region
* Over three decades of community service and healing
In addition to its historical significance, the hospital is a major cultural tourism site, drawing visitors from across the country and around the world. Its ongoing tours bring valuable revenue to local businesses—hotels, restaurants, gas stations, and shops—and directly provide an income for four people.
Our Mission
Our only goal since acquiring the hospital has been clear: to preserve, protect, and respectfully share its powerful story with future generations. We are committed to doing this safely, legally, and with community involvement. But we now fear the city’s actions could unintentionally erase this irreplaceable piece of Yorktown’s heritage.

Question: The City of Yorktown has taken a bold first step. What is the objective?
Code enforcement action is often abused by misguided municipal authorities, who may think they have lawful authority to declare nuisances and order demolition, but who often break the law and violate protected property rights. We can't let this happen to Yorktown Memorial Hospital.
