We recently celebrated THE Grandma Waibel turning 90 years old. 🤍

We asked her to share her best advice, and then told her story the best way we knew how.

But here’s what makes this even more special…

Every old photo you see was taken by Grandpa Waibel and developed by hand in a darkroom. These aren’t just old photographs. They’re moments he saw worth holding onto forever.

Ninety years of a beautiful life, a beautiful marriage, and a legacy that’s still being passed down.

Happy 90th Birthday, Grandma!

This wasn’t supposed to be an engagement session.

At least… not the kind you’re used to seeing.

The day of the shoot, I told them, “Bring a couple outfits. One of them should be your workout clothes.”

That was it.

No Pinterest board.
No list of poses.
No explanation.

Just a basketball… and my promise that there was a method to my madness.

Because I wanted to see them.

She told me they love playing basketball together and that they’re ridiculously competitive. So instead of asking them to stand still and smile at me, I told them to play.

And then something really cool happened…

They forgot I was there.

They laughed. Trash talked. Stole the ball from each other. Their 3-month-old puppy joined every possession like she thought she was the MVP of the game. 🐶🏀

The puppy never had to “sit” for a photo because she became part of the story. By the end, she was happily worn out for their three-hour drive home… which I think every puppy parent can appreciate. 😂

This is what I’ve been chasing creatively.

Less posing.
More living.

Because years from now, I don’t just want you to remember what you looked like.

I want you to remember what it felt like to be together.

Last night was a little different.

For a while now, we’ve been noticing this creative spark growing in our daughter, Penelope. She’s 10 years old, full of joy, and endlessly kind. So last night, I invited her to come along to an engagement session and handed her a camera to capture some behind-the-scenes moments.

I expected a few cute photos.

What I didn’t expect was to get home, look through her images, and stop in my tracks.

As I scrolled through her photos, I kept catching myself thinking, “I would have taken that exact shot.”

That hit me in a way I wasn’t expecting.

Maybe she’s been watching more closely than I realized.

Maybe this is what legacy looks like.

These images aren’t perfect, and that’s not the point. They carry something far more important..they remind me that the way we see people, love people, and tell their stories can quietly shape the people watching us.

I’m so incredibly proud of this sweet girl. 🤍

Some weddings are built around timelines.

There are some sessions that mean a little more.

This was one of them.

Getting to photograph my cousin Emma and Jake as they wait for their sweet baby was such an honor. These are the kinds of photos I hope they’ll pull out years from now and remember exactly how this season felt.

These photos represent something else for me, too.

For a long time, I’ve been stuck creatively. I spent so much energy chasing what I thought my work was supposed to look like that I slowly stopped trusting my own eye. Every trend, every comparison, every idea of what was “right” became louder than my own creative instinct.

Somewhere along the way, I lost myself.

Lately, I’ve decided to stop chasing someone else’s definition of good.

Instead of editing to fit a trend, I’ve started editing with one simple question:

Does this feel right to me?

Because that’s what my clients hire me for.

Not to imitate someone else’s vision.
To trust mine.

Maybe these images feel a little nostalgic. Maybe they remind you of old family photographs. Maybe they don’t fit neatly into a style label at all.

And honestly… I don’t think they need to.

For the first time in a long time, I feel excited to sit down and edit again. I feel like I’m creating work that feels honest—work that looks and feels like The Waibels.

So here’s a little sneak peek of Emma and Jake’s maternity session… and maybe a little glimpse of me finding my way back, too.
