About 12 years ago, I went to Big Bend for the first time in my life.
At first, I was just absolutely shocked at how it was from all civilization, all the cities, all the comforts and everything we know.
Once you get there, it’s truly like a safe Haven. For miles upon miles all you can find is nature, beautiful birds, pure quiet and a picturesque view of the Chisos mountains.
When I found out that the bluebonnets were almost 4 foot tall in places in 2019, I had a two day gap in my schedule. I hit the gas and drove as far as I could to stick my daughter and my kids in the blue bonnets and watch the moonrise.
I fell in love with Big Bend, again and again. There’s absolutely no place in the world that I’ve ever been that has such a sense of serenity and such an escape from society.
Fast-forward all these years later, and imagining that someone is trying to build a wall, tearing down hundred year-old trees, and disturbing the ecosystem of such a beautiful place absolutely makes me ill.
No one in their right mind that has ever set eyes on the Santa Elena Canyon or seen the night sky here would dream of touching it.
Please, if you get a moment, call your congressman and senators.
