📸 Taken inside Wonderland of the Americas at about 11pm Sunday evening after this past weekend’s Mallrats Reunion … in a mall!
What an absolutely INCREDIBLE and humbling weekend all in the same breath. Never did we believe when we started this journey nearly 5 years ago that we would we be hosting KEVIN SMITH & JAY MEWES aka “Jay & Silent Bob” along with the majority of his cast for a Mallrats reunion inside our city and an actual mall for the first time ever.
In doing so, I don’t think many know our team is smaller than most & we definitely ran short staffed for the crowds that slammed us on Saturday. That being said, we stand by all the hard work, sweat, long hours and dedication from our truly D.I.Y. Company and team who stood strong this weekend. Our core staff and storefront combined has roughly 5 full time team members & we have about a dozen who work alongside us come event time and that’s about triple of what we had just last year.
The celebrity guests this past weekend couldn’t be more down to earth and in awe of what we as a community have built inside the place we call home and the fact we do this on an average of 25-30 times per year since August 2022.
Every single show, we take a moment to reflect on what we could do better, improve and grow. This show was no different as we have taken into consideration of switching to a ticketing company to increase our entrance times and wait times to get to our guests. The hardest part about making that jump is we chose not to use those companies from the beginning because of all their excessive ticket fees which contradicts our goal of keeping our events as affordable as possible for all walks of life.
We also strive to be completely true to our roots by standing firm against AI in any of our own personal branding, videography and utilizing & paying local artists for each and every piece of content coming from our pages. While we continue to build stronger guest lists, we’ve stayed firm on keeping the shows as affordable as possible and will continue to do so.
As we head into the fall season, we also know there is much anticipation for our Burton Ball, Hawkins Forever & KOH Convention so as always, we will continue to evolve and grow with our community. We want to to truly thank the literal thousands of people who showed up this weekend without much local press or corporate backing.
We want to thank the dozen local small businesses who did do activation partnerships along with the 100+ vendors overall who joined us because they absolutely trust and believe in what we’re building. At the same time, we sincerely apologize for the long wait times & those who may not have got to be part of the weekend as much as they hoped. We will continue to improve AND one thing is for sure, we aren’t going anywhere, anytime soon.
We love our city, our community, our KOH family of vendors & artists and for that alone, we will continue to create magical moments for those who love being a part of it all.
