One thing that was inspiring to me this past year is seeing so many brides who I’m sure had a much different plan with what their special day would look like but were so willing to adjust and change their plans for the safety of others. There were many elopement bouquet requests this past year with this stunner being one of them!✨ So grateful for the chance I have to work with such beautiful and accommodating brides this last year!

Flower Fact Friday!✅ Boutonniere...who should be wearing one at your wedding and how in the world do you pin them on?! Traditionally, the groom, groomsmen, fathers, grandfathers, step fathers, readers, ushers, and ring bearer typically wear them. But honestly, whoever you want to wear one should! The groom’s boutonniere should stand out a little more from everyone else’s, usually using flowers that match the brides bouquet.

Now, as for pinning them on, that’s the tricky part as most people think but it’s actually not too bad! To pin on a boutonniere you 1) place the boutonniere on the left lapel of the jacket, about 4 inches from the top of the shoulder. 2) Hold the boutonniere in place with your left hand while you flip the lapel back and use your right hand to push the pin downward through the fabric on the back of the lapel and into the stems of flowers on the boutonniere, 3) then use your left hand to help push the pin back through to the back side of the lapel so the pin is not visible from the front but that you can see both the top and bottom of the pin on the back side of the lapel. One pin should do the trick!

*Pro tip! If you really don’t like the idea of having pin on boutonnieres, there are magnetic boutonniere holders now that you should be sure to ask your florist about!

Flower Fact Friday!✅ Let’s talk about cake flowers...Did you know that some flowers are poisonous and are dangerous to place on a cake?!☠️ I know, it sounds a little scary and to be extra safe, florists typically wrap the stems of the flowers with tape or some other method to avoid any of the fluid from the stem leaking on or into the cake. Some common flowers that are poisonous include: azaela, calla lily, daffodil, delphinium, hydrangea, iris, lily of the valley, larkspur, poinsettia, ranunculus, and sweet pea. Let me know if I missed any that you know of by commenting below!👇🏼

6 months of this sweet baby girl!💗 My little assistant is growing up way too fast—time is a thief! One thing I know is that I’m going to have to get a lot quicker at snapping these pictures because she’s starting to realize the flowers next to her are a lot more interesting than my funny faces and noises behind a camera!😜📸

R A N U N C U L U S . . . Here’s your Flower Fact Friday!✅ Did you know that one of these blooms can have between 100 and 130 petals?! This is one of my favorite flowers to use because of the soft and delicate texture they add to an arrangement. Although these beauties have delicate stems and petals, they have a relatively long vase life which is always an added bonus!

Flower Fact Friday✅ One thing I have loved about being a florist is all the amazing things I have learned about flowers. Each Friday I’ll share a fact or tip about flowers and floral design that I hope you’ll find interesting too!

First up...hydrangeas! Did you know hydrangeas drink water through their petals? With the dry Utah weather it is critical to keep the petals hydrated by spraying them with clean water from a spray bottle and in a cool area away from any heat generating appliances (heater, oven, microwave, etc.).

Here are couple other tips to remember with hydrangeas to keep them alive as long as possible so you can validate to your spouse why you bought them!😉

When you bring hydrangeas home, the first thing you’ll want to do is trim the end of the stems with sharp garden trimmers or knife at a 45 degree angle at least 1-2 inches from the bottom. Right after your trim them, dip the ends in alum (found in the spice aisle at the grocery store) which helps the hydrangea to help take up as much water as possible, place in a vase with clean water immediately after, and then spray spray spray!!!💦 I spray mine with water every day and will trim the stems and re-dip in alum every couple days and they last for a couple weeks!!👍🏼

Do you have any other tips or tricks that you’ve learned about hydrangeas that I didn’t cover? Or any questions? Share below, I’d love to hear!!👇🏼
