We’ve said it before (and we’ll keep saying it), we love our volunteers!! Each and every person who volunteers at Living Traditions pays a key role in bringing the festival to life 💖🫶

Whether you greeted people as they entered, crafted with kids in the Kids Area, showed people how to play Bocce Ball, or helped keep the festival clean and tidy, we are so thankful for your support. We can’t wait to see you all again next year!

Can you believe it? It’s already the last day of the Living Traditions Festival! We’ve had an incredible weekend so far and can’t wait to celebrate Utah’s many cultural communities today.

Visit Washington and Library Square today (5/18) from 12-7pm. Special Programming happening today:

🌺 Lei Making Workshop at 12:30pm - Leis are often used as a symbol of love, respect, and affection, used to welcome, celebrate, or honor someone. Discover the art of crafting beautiful, fragrant leis while learning about Polynesian traditions with teacher Curtis Sillito. Located in the lower level Library Classrooms.

🌽 Food Demo with Chef Wendy Juarez of at 1pm - Prime Corn is the Cuisine of our Indigenous Ancestors, originating from ancient pre-Columbian/pre-Hispanic cultures from the Americas. Learn more about indigenous cuisine. Located in the Food Demo Tent.

🍺 Beer Tasting with at 3pm - Kelly Schaefer will guide you through tasting 5 beers – all brewed locally by Bohemian Brewery – and the history and story of central European Lager brewing from the 1200s through the present day. 21+, registration required, $10 tickets available through our website. Located in the Food Demo Tent.

🍛 Food Demo with Chef Mahmoud Alsabsabi of at 5pm - Waterwheel Kitchen specializes in a variety of cuisines including dishes from Jordan, Syria, Lebanon, and Egypt. Enjoy a variety of cultural food with Chef Mahmoud. Located in the Food Demo Tent.

🎬 Film Screenings at 5:15pm - A free screening of select short films from the 2025 Sundance Film Festival. All films are open captioned. Check out our website for a list of films. Located in the Library Auditorium.

When you’re at Living Traditions this weekend, stop by our Alebrije Community Art Project and make your mark on our collaborative project! 🎨🖌️

Alebrije an are a Mexican folk art tradition that involve decorating fantastical animals in vibrant colors and patterns. Come contribute to our own communal 6ft tall axolotl alebrije made by one of our craft artists,

The alebrije will be open for anyone to help paint and decorate on Saturday and Sunday from 12-5pm. The alebrije is located next to the Kids Area but everyone is welcome to be a part of the decorating process

Join Kelly Schaefer as he guides you through tasting and learning about 5 different, locally made beers. From Weissbier to Pilsener, and Viennese to Kölsch, join us and Bohemian Brewery as you discover the history and story of central European Lager brewing from the 1200s through the present day.

Alex Cuba is an award winning Cuban/Canadian Singer/Songwriter. His music combines Funk, Soul, and pan-Latin music. Alex creates musical experiences that bring joy and transport the listener. He’s received 2 Juno awards, 4 Latin Grammys, and a 2022 Grammy for Best Latin Pop Album for his skill and artistry.

Today is the day! Here’s everything you need to know to make your visit to Living Traditions as easy and fun as possible.

ℹ️ Festival Information Booth
The Info Booth will be located on the horseshoe, on the East side of the Salt Lake City & County Building. Lost and Found will be located in the Information booth during the festival.

🏥 First Aid
First Aid and EMTs will be located next to the horseshoe, on the East side of the Salt Lake City & County Building. Adjacent to the Information booth and 200 E.

🥂 Beverages
Traditional drinks are available at various festival food booths. Soft drinks are available at the beverage tent in the middle of 200 East. Beer and wine are available for patrons 21 and older in booths in the middle of 200 East.

💧 Free Water
Free water will be located near the Food Market on 200 East and near the Kids Area canopy. Please bring your refillable water bottles to use throughout the event.

🚾 Restrooms
Portable toilets, including accessible units, are located on the southeast side of the City & County Building and the south side of Library Square near the Leonardo Museum.

💵 ATMs
ATMs are located by the beverage booth and the Food Market on 200 East. Living Traditions is primarily cash based so we encourage you to bring cash.

🐾 No Pets
Please leave your pets at home. Living Traditions is a hot, crowded, and loud environment not suitable for pets.

🚫 No Smoking
In accordance with the Salt Lake City Ordinance, smoking or va**ng is not permitted on the festival grounds.

🙏🏻 Prayer Tent
Living Traditions has a Multi-Faith Prayer Tent available for public use. The Prayer Tent is located on the North-west side of Washington Square. Please be quiet and respectful of all who are using the space.No eating or drinking inside.
This tent is for spiritual practices. An indoor, sensory friendly space is located on the East side of Library Square for attendees simply looking for a quiet space. The Prayer Tent is located on grass and does not have a floor covering. Attendees who use prayer mats are encouraged to bring their own.

Want to try your hand at a new skill this weekend? Drop in to one of the many workshops happening at Living Traditions! Taught by experienced artists, these workshops are the perfect way to explore a new skill and learn about cultural practices

Saturday
Chinese Paper Cutting with Jingfu Lu
12:30 - 1:30 PM
The origins of Chinese Paper Cutting can be traced back to more than two thousand years ago. Originally for ceremonial purposes, paper cutting today is a decorative art form to welcome in the new season and the new year. In this workshop, participants will learn this beloved pastime and take home their own paper cuttings.

Puerto Rican Maracas with Manuel Padro
2 - 3 PM
The percussive instrument of maracas are a crucial part of Puerto Rican traditional music, and are commonly found in the genres of salsa and bomba. In this workshop, paint your own maracas to have an individual twist, and learn some of the basic rhythms of playing from Manuel Padro.

Danza Marinera Norteña with Cristina Bolaños
2:30 - 3:30 PM
Marinera Norteña is a traditional partner dance recognized as the national dance of Peru. In this workshop, Cristina Bolaños will provide introductory steps to the beloved dance. Bring a friend, or meet someone new at this partner-centric dance form.
