The day after your elopement, the dress is still hanging there.

Not every wide shot needs a couple in it.
Not every emotional moment needs a canyon behind it.

Sometimes the landscape is the story. Sometimes the moment between two people is so good that pulling back would ruin it.

Trying to force both into every frame is how you end up with neither.
The canyon at first light deserves a photo where you feel the scale of it — no subjects, no distraction, just the place doing what it does.

And when she laughs and grabs his face and completely forgets where she is — that's not the moment to think about the background.

My job is knowing which one I'm in. Reading the day fast enough to switch modes without missing either one.

That's what almost 10 years of shooting outdoor campaigns teaches you. Not just how to find the light — but how to know when to stop looking for it and just pay attention to the people.

You'll get both. Just not always in the same frame.

I've been having a lot of great discussions with couples lately and I've heard these 5 real reasons couples are skipping the traditional wedding and going for an elopement instead:
