There’s a HUGE difference between a Spotify playlist and a real DJ 👇
A lot of people think DJing is just showing up with speakers and pressing play on a playlist.
And honestly… that’s exactly what some DJs do.
But a real DJ is doing way more behind the scenes than most people realize.
We’re constantly watching the crowd and analyzing the room in real time.
Who’s dancing?
Who’s leaving the floor?
What age group is reacting right now?
Is the energy building or starting to dip?
Do we stay in this genre longer or pivot into something else?
Every decision matters.
Sometimes I’ll have the next 3 songs planned out in my head… and then completely change directions because I notice the crowd reacting differently than expected.
That’s why DJ is so different compared to just listening to a Spotify playlist.
A playlist can’t read body language.
A playlist can’t notice when the bridesmaids are starting to lose energy.
A playlist can’t recognize that the older crowd is ready for a singalong moment.
A playlist can’t save a dance floor when a song misses.
A real DJ can.
And honestly, mixing songs together is only a small part of it.
The biggest skill is knowing HOW to control the energy of the room all night long without people even realizing you’re doing it.
That’s why two DJs can play a lot of the same songs, but one party feels unforgettable while another one feels awkward or dies early.
Anybody can hit play.
Keeping 200 people dancing for hours is a completely different skillset.
