Happy Sunday, friends.
The past 16 days have been some of the hardest of my life, but also filled with small blessings that remind us to keep holding on to hope.
Two weeks ago, my husband Craig had a diving accident in Nassau that changed our lives. Despite being an experienced diver with 150+ dives, he became critically ill after what seemed like routine dives on September 19.
We airlifted him from the Bahamas to Miami’s Mercy Hospital ICU, where he was diagnosed with decompression sickness, underwent 6 hyperbaric treatments and due to further complications, needed to be on a ventilator for the past 15 days. I have been with him this entire time, and I’m beyond grateful for the assistance from the team at Baha Mar.
Last night brought our first major milestone—Craig was extubated. Today he’s breathing on his own, talking, and even joking with nurses. We’re incredibly grateful to the Mercy team whose expertise and compassion have been extraordinary. They are one of 4 yes, 4 facilities in the EASTERN US who provide this type of hyperbaric medicine.
Let me be CLEAR.
The road ahead is long. Craig will need extended care in the ICU in Miami before transferring to Tampa for inpatient rehab. But his heart is strong, his mind is clear, and his spirit is shining through.
I’m staying in Miami with my twin sister Blair, surrounded by other family and friends who’ve dropped everything to be here. My BFF Kelly, Craig’s sister Carolyn, my Miami crew Nicole, Arianna. My dearest Nicole, my CRNA super hero and bestie, and Dr. Andrew Alexander, NO WORDS ❤️!
Drs Mike and Nick- it’s overwhelming.
We are so grateful to my parents and the medical care and input he has received, from near and far. It could have been a very different outcome. To everyone who has reached out—thank you. I can’t always respond, but your prayers mean everything.
“There’s nothing too hard for you.”
-Jeremiah 32:17
God doesn’t make mistakes, and He has surely been answering prayers. Please keep them coming for Craig’s healing and our strength.
